Stay warm!

Yes, in most areas in the world it is very cold right now!

How do you stay warm in winter times, just like the cutie kitten in the picture?

I got a few tips!

1. Layer your clothes. 1 shirt and 1 thin sweater on top of each other will be warmer than 1 superthick sweater! This as the air gets in between the 2 layers and keeps you warmer. Make sure you bring your hat, scarf and gloves everywhere you go!

2. Don't go outside right after taking a shower. You will feel warmer right after the shower, but your pores are open, and maybe your hair is still wet, so when you go outside right away, you get (a) cold faster!

3. If you are cold a smart tip from a model: use your blowdryer to warm up your clothes before you put it on! You can also do this with your coat before you go outside. Plus put your shoes next to the heater, they will warm up!

4. Working out will make your body and blood move, and therefore all blood will be circulated better to all your extremities, and you will be less cold!

5. Bring a large scarf everywhere you go, so when you are cold you can wrap it all around yourself!

Enjoy the Winter!

Running in the cold

Minus six degrees Celsius (21 degrees Fahrenheit) on a sunny Wednesday morning. Let's go for a run! Covered like an onion in many layers I walk out, and I don't think I've ever started running so quickly, partly to warm up, partly to try to get away from the cold. I was unsuccessful in the latter. Some moments it felt good, I almost felt warm, until the wind came by and cut through everything I was wearing and made me feel like a running naked dude in a park.

People walking their dogs stared at their dogs when I came by, as if to say 'At least I have a reason' and with the three other runners I saw there was an eye contact that said 'no clue why we're doing this, but it's kinda nice, isn't it?'.

Cold running, I don't think it should be an Olympic sport. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to curl around my heater in foetus position and defrost.

Celeriac Soup Recipe

Today I made Celeriac with Chestnut soup.

What do you need?

  • 1 celeriac
  • 2 celery
  • 2 handfuls of cooked chestnuts
  • 2 shallots
  • 2 vegetarian bouillon cubes
  • 1 litre of water.
  • salt & pepper
  • olive oil.
  • parsley

How to make:

* Cut of the skin of the celeriac with a knife. Chop it into small cubes.Clean Celeriac

* Chop the shallots

* Saute the celeriac and shallots.

chopped celeriac sauteed

* Chop the celery

* Put the cooked chestnuts in a pan au bain marie, and cook it for 5 minutes so the chestnuts are heated. take out of plastic wrapper. I used the brand: Allaire certified by AB ( Agriculture Biologique). You can also cook chestnuts yourself but I though this was easier ;)

Cooked Chestnut by Allaire

Chestnuts really remind us of winter. They are delicious cooked and contain no cholesterol , no gluten and little fat, even less calories than  other nuts like almonds and walnuts. it is also the only nut that contains Vit C! (from wikipedia).

* Boil the water in a pan, with the 2 bouillon cubes. add the celeriac,the shallots and the celery. turn heat low when boiling.

Boil celeriac soup

* Add half of the chestnuts

*When celeriac is soft, you can take the pan of the heat, and use a mixer to puree the ingredients. ad a bit of olive oil, salt & pepper to your liking.

Puree soup

* Use the rest of the chestnuts to put on the bottom of the soup bowl, and poor the soup over it.

* Add parsley.

Delicious!

Moisturizing mask for dry hands

My hands get so dry in winter, especially this season! I have tried many creams, and many of them does work, but what really made a difference on my skin is this “formula”:

I use a Lavender Hand Cream by natural skin care line  “Jurlique” plus one more secret ingredient, which is  a Vitamin E-complex! I add  a few drops of  the “Liquid E-complex” by “Country Life”. I mix it all together and leave it on my hands for a few moments. Just like that:

This “mask” is really moisturizing my hands, and leaves them very soft.
