Ginger Lemon Tea

I make this tea every other day because I love it so much and I never get bored with ginger flavor. Its so spicy and warming and reach and …. healing!

The power of ginger lemon tea

When you feel your stomach is upset or when you over-eat (think Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas celebration!), or when you just need immunity boost, make this tea for yourself or your love one, sit in a cozy chair with a blanket, and enjoy the herbal aroma that is oh so good for you! Sipping ginger lemon tea will calm you down, fire up your digestion and warm up your soul.

Chocolate to go with tea

I always keep raw chocolate bar in my fridge (yes, i do keep my chocolate in a fridge! it stays crisp and fresh) . Chocolate and this tea is a delicious treat at any time of  a day!

Model skincare

The more I learn about nutrition and beauty, The more I come to understand that the secret to looking radiant is to do more internally than externally!

For me that means: eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, making your daily meals at least 80% or more raw - less cooking, boiling, heating, microwaving, frying your food, -drinking more water, take high quality oils as a supplement ( choose one of the following: raw coconut oil, organic olive oil, hemp seed oil, flaxseed oil, avocado).

RELATED: Why you need to drink enough water

My beauty model skincare regimen

Externally your beauty regimen shouldn’t be complicated at all! I got rid of bunch of expensive creams. I used to spend crazy amount of money on commercial beauty products. Today,  I replaced them all with just a few products that I found work best for me.

click on pictures for more information

Raw coconut oil

Coconut oil is the best body moisturizer, occasionally I use it on my face (1 drop of coco oil is all you need for an entire face).

OYL choice: Garden of Life Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - Unrefined Cold Pressed Coconut Oil for Hair, Skin and Cooking, 14 Ounce

Raw honey

I use organic raw honey as my daily healing  mask.

OYL choice: Ys Eco Bee Organic Honey 1 Pound Jar

Cleanser

I just discovered black Japanese soap “Deitanseki Clay Soap”. I found it while visiting  Morikami Japanese Garden in Miami. It deeply hydrates skin. Does not clog pores , gently cleanse face, especially the pores, with micro-porous active ingredients. Enriched with Kaolin Clay and selected Carbon Powder The Bentonite helps your skin retain its natural moisture. (click on picture for more information or to purchase it)

Face moisturizer

I have a couple of different face creams.  I switch between them all the time:  “EMINENCE” Rose Moisturizer:

and “Dr. Perricone” Hypoallergenic Nourishing Moisturizer:

Thermal water

I wash my face with Thermal Water, also use it as a toner before applying moisturizer.

OYL choice :Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water, Soothing Calming Facial Mist Spray for Sensitive Skin, 10.1 oz.

Face scrub

I love  “REN” face scrub.

Clay mask

Again, “REN” clay mask is amazing. Or you can purchase any clay mask at your healthy food store.

Pineapple mask

I always have a fresh pineapple at home.  I use it as a peeling mask, fruit acid “eat away” dead skin cells leaving your skin looking fresh.  How to use pineapple as a peeling mask: Take a piece of pineapple, rub it all over the face. Leave it for 5 minutes. Rinse. Spray Thermal water following by moisturizer or coconut oil.  (you can substitute it to strawberry or papaya)

My tip - If you are going to spend money on beauty product, invest it in a really good face moisturizer, like I did :)

Beet Pineapple Cucumber Juice

If you have been reading my posts, you know that I’m all about smoothies, juices and raw food recipes. I love to be creative in the kitchen and raw vegetables and fruits are huge inspiration to me.

Sometimes I go to supermarket without knowing what I want for dinner, I just buy what’s in-season and look for fresh ingredients. I don’t remember last time I bought something that is canned, bottled or frozen… Anyways, back to my veggies :)

When I get home, I simply put my produce on the table and start creating my meal: it can be blended soup, big salad, a smoothie, raw pasta made with zucchini, or just simple juice.

One morning I made a beet-pineapple-cucumber juice. WOW! It came out so incredibly delicious! It’s a real treat!

Before you run to your juicer (I hope I inspire you so much, that you have to “run” to make my recipes) I must warn you, that after juicing all the ingredients, my kitchen turned out to be  a crime scene - deep red color with drops of blood aka beet juice everywhere! Even on a ceiling.

But trust me, the mess is so worth the result!

Why I love Salt Lamps

I was once searching for a new natural skin care products and I came a cross this website of Natural Salt Lamps

About SO Well

This company uses pure Himalayan Sea Salt as a base of all their products. On their website, beside the beauty products, they sell natural cleansing products for the house, shampoos, bar soaps, clay cookware, candles, organic bedding and many other amazing natural products. But what especially stood out for me were the salt lamps!

Lamps are made out of a pure Himalayan Salt, each lamp has a unique shape, cause its hand crafted to preserve natural energy. When a lamp is lit by a small, energy efficient bulb, crystal salt emits an electrical charge, enriching our environment with health promoting negative ions. Salt Lamps purifies the air in our homes! It is very beneficial for people with allergies and asthma.

And look how pretty it looks in the evening!

Organic vs non-organic

When you buy your fruits and veggies at supermarket in the USA, they always have this little sticker with numbers on it. Do you know what it means?

Produce from organic farms

Produce that comes from organic farms, have a sticker with five numbers, and always starts with number 9.

Organic vs non-organicOrganic vs non-organic

Produce from non-organic farms

Produce that been treated with pesticides, have stickers with four number, and always starts with number 4.

(Sorry, I don’t have non-organic fruits at home to snap a picture of it)

More information on organic vs. non-organic

  • Organic foods are foods produced using methods which do not involve synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Organic products are not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives. Click here to read more.
  • In the United States, the National Organic Program (NOP) is the federal regulatory framework governing organic food. You should visit their website to learn more http://www.ams.usda.gov/AMSv1.0/nop.
  • Wikipedia offers also a list of countries with regulations on organic agriculture. It contains links to documents with the status of formal government-standards, regulations, and certification of organic farming and organic food.

Next time you go to supermarket, pay attention to it and you will see.

Have a great fruit and veggie shopping!

Love, Val

Brazil Nut Milk Recipe

[youtube id="6mYoMlG8UX8" mode="normal" align="center"]

If you want to start a healthy diet but you don't know where to start, nut milk is a great way. You can use for your smoothie, oatmeal, coffee, tea, and off course just as it is. So lets get started!

Brazil Nut Milk
A lovely recipe for home made Nut Milk. This recipe contains Brazil Nuts, but you can also use almonds or any other nut.

Author:
Cuisine: Healthy Kitchen
Recipe type: Drinks

Prep time:
Total time:

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of Brazil Nuts
  • 2 Dates
  • 4 cups of Water
  • 1 tsp of Organic Vanilla Powder
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of Himalayan Sea Salt

Instructions
Milk Base
  1. Put about two cups of Brazil Nuts into your blender.
  2. As a sweetener your can add two dates. You can also use organic honey or sugar.
  3. Add about 4 cups of water depending on the thickness you prefer.
  4. And for some extra flavor I used one teaspoon of Vanilla Powder and one teaspoon of cinnamon. Please make sure you don't use liquid vanilla that contains alcohol.
  5. To bring up the flavor just add a pinch of Salt.
Straining
  1. Use a reusable nut milk bag to strain the mixture.

Notes
Most nut milk bags are reusable, they can be used for nut milks and straining juices. A bag is much easier and faster than using a strainer. The fine mesh material minimizes sediment and allows for sprouting of even the smallest of seeds and grains.

Healthy Foods

February or September? That means Fashion Weeks are happening!

If you’ve ever been in New York City around this time – you would have noticed a lot of models in the streets running around in high heels with their portfolios in their hands. I remember first time I came to New York – which was 7 years ago. I remember how stressful it was for me: no time to rest, no time to sleep and no time to a grab fresh, nutritious meal!

I’ll share with you some tips and tricks how to choose the right foods that will leave you satisfied, without bloating or putting on extra pounds. Just a few ideas that you can do at home or when you have time to eat out in the restaurants with your friends.

Valentina's tips

  • Start your day with big glass of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Always have green salad before your main course. Ok, honestly, who wants salad after a bowl of pasta?!
  • Have fruits for breakfast and try to snack on fruits until the lunchtime.
  • Drink your water! The moment you think you are hungry. Drink a glass of water and then ask your self “Am I still hungry?” it happens to me all the time – my body is just asking for water.
  • Replace cow milk with almond milk. I make my own almond milk at home and I add it to my raw granola for a tasty breakfast. I add almond milk to my smoothies and many other recipes. It is a delicious vegan alternative to animal or other milks.
  • Replace white sugar, brown sugar, and all kinds of artificial sweeteners with stevia, Agave, yakon syrup or coconut palm sugar!
  • Snack on RAW nuts and seeds: when you snack on roasted nuts (or baked or in any other way cooked) they can cause acne. Nuts are very dense and highly fatty food. When you eat them in raw state, those fats are extremely healthy for us, but once nuts been heated above 105F they become rancid - not a beauty food you want to put in your body!
  • Choose sweet yam potatoes over regular white potatoes.
  • Choose vegetables and fruits that are still attached to their roots and vines, because they have more nutrients: for example tomatoes on the vines, fresh herbs in pots, carrots and beetroots with their tops attached etc.
  • Eat whole foods rather than pre packed, pre cut, preserved, pre made... Avoid frozen ready-to-eat microwave dinners, avoid canned corn, beans, tuna.. Buy a whole watermelon and cut it freshly at home rather than buying it already cut into pieces (and think of the waste you create when you get your sliced fruits in plastic wrapping).
  • Always have a (protein) bar with you in case of emergencies. The idea is to choose the right one – I like “Vega Whole Food Raw Energy Bar”.

I wish you a happy Meal–and to models: Good Luck with new season!

Love, Val.

How to store your greens in the fridge

Quick tip how to store your greens in the fridge. I have just learned it, and I wish I knew this trick long time ago, cause I love my greens, but they go bad really fast if I don’t consume it in the first couple of days.

How to store your greens in the fridge

  • Cut your greens (it can be anything; kale, parsley, spinach, cilantro etc. Today I have my collard greens)
  • Arrange them in the storage unit.
  • Add cold water and some ICE on top.
  • Cover it with a lid

store-your-greens

It stays fresh for up to a week! And when you are ready to use it, Greens are fresh and crisp just like the day you bought it.
