Eating for Beauty by David Wolfe

Everybody should take the time to read a good book! I just started reading this book about "The Beauty Diet".  It is called Eating for Beauty by David Wolfe, a guide to becoming healthier and more beautiful.

Eating for Beauty David Wolfe

David Wolfe

For you who don't know who this David Wolfe is, he is an expert in the field of nutrition, especially raw food, and what he calls "Superfoods". In "Eating for Beauty" he explains his nutrition plan to achieve beauty, and it is not about restriction, but about adding in amazing super foods.

David Wolfe

Institute of Integrative Nutrition

When I went to school at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC, he came as a guest speaker and was very captivating. He was like giving light almost that was how positive he was about the World and food! He believes in raw foods, as they have the most enzymes and most life in them. (that means: not heated over 120 degrees Fahrenheit). He works with pictures called Kirlian photography, that show how much energy is in each food item. What you see in this way of photographing, is rays of light in different parts of the food. When you do this with raw foods, there are more and stronger rays, then when you do it with cooked or processed foods. You have to see it to understand so click to this page for the explanation: Kirlian photography.

Superfoods

There are certain foods that have so many good qualities, minerals, antioxidants or other good things in them, people call them: Superfoods. David Wolfe believes eating those kind of foods helps your cells function better, which could help you become the healthiest and most beautiful you can be!

David LOVES food, raw and vegan. He says there are so many varieties and colors in plant based foods, that eating these nutritious foods are like orgasms for your

taste buds !( his words not mine!) I think he especially likes avocado, as his nickname is supposedly David "Avocado" Wolfe!

Some say he says crazy stuff, but I think he inspires people to eat healthier.

Some things he says in the book stayed with me for a while. He is absolutely right: Positivity is the way to go about food, not restricting, dieting, or being afraid of it! Your thoughts, and actions in every part of your life are connected to the way you look and feel. That's what I believe too!

Here are a few quotes I thought were very powerful:

"If you want to become beautiful, you have to become that type of person on the inside first, and then attract beauty to you. It seems to work this way in all facets of life"

"The logic of "You are what You eat" implies that those who wish to become healthier should eat the healthiest foods. Those who wish to beautify themselves should eat the most beautifying foods"

I think David Wolfe is an inspiring person. Besides Eating for Beauty he also wrote Naked Chocolate (all about chocolate) and The Sunfood Diet Success System (in which he explains more about his theory of fresh, raw and vegan (super) foods).

Raw Mini Christmas Puddings

Hi everyone at OYL!!! Well here it is. Last minute post of the year for me! I was in the kitchen this afternoon making up a raw non-chocolate version of my 'Choka-fruit Puddin' (recipe in my book) and of course posted a pic to Instagram promising to share the recipe. So here it is. These tiny puddings are the most simple, delicious Xmas treats you'll ever make, and so good, that when people find out they're healthy as well, they will probably beg you for the recipe.

Raw Mini Christmas Puddings
The most simple and delicious tiny raw puddings. The most delicious Xmas treats you’ll ever make!

Author:
Cuisine: Raw
Recipe type: Dessert

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup organic dried cranberries
  • ¾ cup organic pitted dried prunes, diced
  • ¾ cup mixed organic sultanas and currants
  • 1 Tablespoon organic goji berries
  • ½ cup dried Kiwi Fruit, optional – for colour, diced
  • 8 large pitted Medjool dates, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla powder
  • Zest of 1 organic orange
  • Fresh juice of 1 orange
  • 1 dessertspoon rum (for flavour only, optional!)
  • ½ cup hot water
  • 2 cups almond meal (OR to make nut free – you may use ground coconut instead)

Instructions
  1. Mix together all dried fruits, spices, freshly squeezed juice, hot water and rum if using.
  2. Place this mixture at room temperature for 12 – 24hours, 2 of those hours may have mixture placed into the sunlight or in a warmer place. To be honest I didn’t have time, so only sat the fruity mixture in the sun for 1 hour then continued on with the recipe.
  3. Add in the almond meal and mix well. Form mixture into mini puddings with your hands, and decorate with goji berries or anything you fancy. Sit them in little muffin-tin liners and chill until Xmas day!
  4. Serve at room temperature or slightly warmed, with freshly made raw coconut cream, raw banana or mango ice-cream (made by simply whizzing up frozen fruit in a food processor) ‘The Dreamcrème’ (again, in my book) your favourite vegan ice-cream, or yogurt such as Co-Yo.

super power smoothie

Hey!! How's everyone! :) I'm rushing out the door with one of my delicious smoothies in hand and a list from here (Australia) to NY, well maybe not quite that long, but there's a lot to do today! Here's a fresh and fruity a variation of my Model Chocolate Super power smoothie. You may have seen some of my smoothie breakfasts popping up on Instagram. Today I opted for the greens, berries, kiwi and banana with chia seeds and cacao nibs - they're on top so you can't see them in the picture! I also added some probiotic powder and extra water to the coconut water and pulp.

101 Ways Model Chocolate #Supersmoothie

1 green coconut, water & pulp(if you can't find a fresh one, use coconut water in a package- tip from Organice Your Life®)

1 cup frozen strawberries, blueberries or any berries!

1 tablespoon or less chia seeds

1 tablespoon raw cacao nibs

Optional Extras
2 teaspoons acai, maqui powder or small handful goji berries
2 brazil nuts + gel of 1 medium aloe stalk
1 tablespoon rice protein, or hemp protein powder, will change the flavour
1 teaspoon barley green, spirulina, or 1 handful of baby spinach leaves
1 teaspoon maca, mesquite or lucuma powder
Frozen banana/mango chunks or raw honey, if you want it sweet
Pineapple or kiwi fruit, passionfruit
2 teaspoons bee pollen + ½ teaspoon probiotic powder
Extra water if needed

BLEND altogether until smooth. This smoothie is true power food. Just experiment to get it how you like it or need it on the day. Energising, beautifying, superfoods! Addiction plus. Sometimes I want it creamy not fruity and I'll use my 100% raw Supergorgeous Almond Mylk (in the book) as the base and no tart fruits adding raw cacao powder as well! Mmmm!

I love good food!! It is my no 1 passion. I also love learning about the human body, health/healing and wellness is a lifelong fascination of mine...and if you haven't guessed it - I love FASHION. RAW CHOCOLATE LOVE

Hi loves! Hope you're having a wonderful day :)

I'm so very busy right now working on my first cookbook ~ MODEL CHOCOLATE ~ which is getting closer by the moment! My chocolate brings you more energy, love & beauty with every supergorgeous bite! There are over 50 (more like 60) recipes in it ranging from breakfasts to desserts & even a couple of beauty treatments using raw cacao. In just over a month we'll be shooting the cover & I'll share sneak peaks here via Organic Your Life! Stay tuned...

For now though, I want to share with you a few raw chocolate tips you can do oh-so-easily which will enhance your:

Life  - this oldest living lady a chocoholic? woo!

Beauty - antioxidants second to none on the face of the earth

Love - watch this awesome inspiring  informative video by lord Cacao Wolfe

Health - extra raw cacao nutrition info

Happiness - anything that tastes this good & this good (bravo Val) & is every bit as good for you as it tastes makes you happy inside!! With those two recipes alone you can throw a little chocolate party! MMMMM.

Stock up on goodies:

Raw cacao powder, raw cacao nibs, raw cacao beans, creamed coconut, coconut oil, organic essential oils like peppermint, orange, lavender. Spices like cayenne & cinnamon, dried fruits such as blueberries, mango, incaberries. Organic fresh & frozen fruits & superfruits! Sweeteners such as raw honey, raw agave, maple syrup, coconut sugar. Organic nuts & seeds. Superpowders such as mesquite, lucuma, maqui berry, hemp protien, acai berry, maca. SOO GOOD.

Now you can do anything...!

Try:

Adding raw cacao, coconut oil, shavings of creamed coconut, cacao nibs, spices to nuts & seeds or organic fruits in your day. You can make simple fresh fruits exciting by adding yogurt & raw cacao nibs on top. You could add a sprinkling of raw cacao powder over a bowl of oatmeal before drizzling on honey & cinnamon. Rolling medjool dates in superpowders, mentioned above, & fill with raw cacao nibs or powder mixed with hazelnut butter. Snacking on cacao beans & goji berries is a favourite of many healthy people worldwide & for good reasons :)

Replace hot chocolate drinks with raw cacao hot chocolate. Don't scald it, place almond milk over raw cacao powder first, froth it with spices if you like & sweetener - then pour over the boiling water.

You can add cacao nibs or raw cacao powder into smoothies. I have a supersmoothie recipe in my book which is pretty much just young green coconut water with blueberries, cacao & any choice of superpowders/foods you like! It can taste scrumptious or earthy & medicinal depending on your combinations or needs on the day. A smoothie a day to keep the doctor away!

There's many great recipes available on the internet using raw cacao so have a play. Its worth the effort in all its blessedness... BUT if you are superbusy & want to buy chocolate instead PLEASE PLEASE choose only to buy fairtrade (refuse to support child slavery) for the rest of your life. I'd rather never taste chocolate again than buy chocolate that ruins a childs life. Remember too, buy chocolate that is what I call 'fairtrade by birth'. This means the company has always been fairtrade, rather than just slapping on a logo to keep up with the changing trends.

LOVE & CHOCOLATE

DAY 1: To start off, I am making it very difficult for myself, as today right away I am taking a flight to across the Atlantic Ocean! But I took the time to wake up (if I get up fast I am tired all day, so I wake up early and take some extra time to just relax in bed before I get up) . I saw all the support tweets and messages and got excited! I started the day with a shot of Chlorophyll on an empty stomach. In the USA it is easy to get, it is the same as in a wheat grass shot, try to find it in your local health store. Chlorophyll is critical in photosynthesis in plants (absorption of energy from light). Then I looked what I still had in my fridge... And made a smoothie! Smoothie: Banana, coconut water, fresh lemon juice, flax seeds.

Banana- coconut -lemonjuice-flaxseeds-smoothie

Workout: 25 min treadmill. I hate doing things for prolonged periods of time. but running while watching something on the iPad is good, and I put my favorite dance music on when I jump on trampoline. I DON'T like work out but I know that every time I start I get in greater shape and feel great after, like I can conquer the world. And feeling sweaty feels good too (release of toxins from your body) It makes your skin soft and nice too! At noon I went to get a nice facial at Tracie Martyn. Getting facials makes your skin glow! Deep cleansing and microdermabrasion. Find a good place close to where you live.

For lunch: I was cleaning out my fridge as I am leaving today. So I made soup!

During the day if I felt hungry I snacked on some cherries, grapes and nuts. I took a flight from NYC to Amsterdam with KLM. Before that I took a 30 min back massage at Express Spa. You know the one where you sit in a chair and they put their elbows in your back. I love it! So I fell asleep easily on the flight and got a few hours of sleep on the way over. Day 2: I landed in Amsterdam at noon. I went to the hotel. When you are running around you sometimes forget to eat, therefore it is always good to have some sort of snacks with you, that you can eat while on the go.  I went for lunch: a nicoise salad with grilled tuna. Then I walked around the "Vondelpark" with my nephew Navy and his father (my brother-in-law Michael Lamey) for a few hours. We were so tired when we got home as it was so sunny and warm too! I also had to carry Navy, on my back or in my arms, so that was a great work out. For dinner I had a couscous salad with grilled shrimp. And a decaf latte (sorry I could not help it it helps my digestion after a flight) I was so busy all day doing fun things that I forgot food. i just made sure that when I ate, it was delicious! Tomorrow I am going vegetarian I think. I hope they have some good options at the shoot... Day 3: Sorry I did not update this day earlier, but I was shooting today for a campaign with Dutch top models Cato van Ee & Sophie Vlaming.

Lonneke & Cato

in the morning I ate breakfast in the hotel: 1 banana, 1 slice of bread, a few strawberries, fruit yoghurt, green tea, orange juice, 1 hard boiled egg.

David Wolfe Seminar Oct 30th, 2011

This weekend, I took my friend Jose Derks to hear health guru David Wolfe speak in Amsterdam! It was time again to get inspired, and learn more about Superfoods! David is crazy about raw chocolate, avocados and all the other Superfoods he believes in. I saw him speak the first time when he came to my then-school at Integrative Nutrition in New York City. I thought he was one of the most exciting speakers! This Sunday, he was also here to promote his book "Eating for Beauty" that was published in dutch!

David Wolfe Seminar

The event was sold out (!) so about 600 people of all shapes and colors, were sitting together listening to David speak for 5 hours. Actually we left before he finished, because we had to drive back home for 1.5. hours. He is known to go on with his speaking, if he really gets into it, which is amazing because I love exciting speakers! But my mind was overloaded with So much good information, I am sure more information my brain would have not registered anyway I think?

I personally  learnt the most about superfood mushrooms: Chaga Mushroomand Reishi mushroom. Read more about David and his story on Chaga mushroom and Reishi Mushroom. He also spoke about many other herbs, supplements, from raw chocolate to phytoplankton.

Raw food & product stands

At the entrance, there were many vendors with all kinds of raw foods, books, and even a trampoline sales man (woohoo for trampolines!) So Jose stocked up on Maca, raw cocoa nibs & chia seeds (Valentina has a great recipe with chia and you can find it here.) I just bought... lots of raw chocolate! David said that chocolate keeps you healthy, and hey, anything that is a reason to eat chocolate I gladly accept! I will talk about the chocolates later on, so come back to this post sometime soon!

Don't forget to check out David Wolfe's Website!

I recommend David's Books:
