B-17 and Apple Seeds

Hi, how's your week going!?.. I don't have time to write a long post today, but I'd like to provoke your thoughts a little. I'm munching on organic apples (pictured), halved, cores intact & served with a sprinkling of organic cinnamon. Simply lovely with a pot of tea!

Apple seeds are bad for you

When you search for "apple seeds" online, all sorts of scary articles appear (makes for interesting reading!) about apple seeds being bad for you as they are poisonous if you eat a lot of them. Now if you really want to confuse yourself, type in the benefits or nutrition of apple seeds. Interesting uh?... I reckon nature knows best & if we were a little more in tune with the natural world we might even know what would heal us, as the animals do!

Eating apple seeds

I personally am into eating apple seeds. Not obsessively of course, but if it's a fresh crisp organic apple & the core is perfect I EAT IT. Can't help it really! IT's beautiful star beckons! I remember reading (Jethro Kloss - 'Back to Eden') when I was only 12yrs old how wonderful it is for the body to 'apple fast' & eat apples all day, skins, cores & all, with lots of fresh water in between. I've done it quite a few times with great success (only I like to add green drinks into the course of the day). So I guess you could say I'm healthy living proof that apple seeds won't poison you if you just eat them once a while;)

Some benefits of Apple seeds

Apple seeds are in fact rich in vitamin B-17, something we don't get a lot of. This valuable little nutrient, also found in apricot kernals, buckwheat, strawberries, cashews, & other natural foods. Some studies that I found online say vitamin B-17 actually helps to prevent cancers & even inhibit or reverse tumor growth. (Of course I'm not claiming apple seeds can cure you of cancer & you should probably ask your doctor what he/she thinks before going on mad apple seed eating binges!) Besides that, eating one whole apple or binging on apple seeds are 2 different things.

Apple seeds, like ANY SEED ON THE PLANET, contain the 'lifeforce' or energy to sprout new life!! That's energy to fight disease & promote healthy cells. Food for thought indeed.

I was out enjoying lunch the other day with my family & a simply dressed, radiant woman sat down close by us & we shared a word or two.

What impresses me in another person

What always impresses me most about a person is their smile. Their radiance. Their GLOW. This lovely lady wasn't wearing much make-up - if any, but she was amazing! Healthy, happy & at peace with herself & us as well. She was no supermodel, but bound to brighten up the day of anyone she may have bumped in to! For sure!!... It was raining too... & she had the cutest little puppy. :)

My weekend challenge

Love people. Be kind. Put on something nice in the morning & GLOW all day long. The coolest thing is that being your best you isn't only about you...! Lets break free of our own limitations & be beautiful. Touching the lives of others & inspiring them too. ;))

Easy Clean with soap nuts

Did you know you can wash your laundry with soap nuts?

My introduction to soap nuts

WOW. Now I really know nature has it all. I'd never heard of these clean as a whistle little munchkins until I attended a soapmaking class. The information shared was AMAZING. Afterwards, people lined up for ages to purchase soap setting boxes, natural ingredients to make soap with...AND the best thing ever! SOAPNUTS. They look delicious don't they, & yet they are, SOAP?? Yes. Soap, in a nutshell! I'm still wowed out that these grow on trees (actually they are soap berries or Sapindus mukorossi) Anyway... All you do is boil 6 of them up in half a liter of water for 20 minutes & you have your very own, liquid soap. Strain before filling a pump 'foaming' bottle & keep near the kitchen sink, bathroom vanity or laundry to wash your hands without chemicals!

Isn't that simply 100% genius from mother earth? I think I'll add a little essential oil to mine...& apparently, you need to use it up within two weeks. That's because there's no nasties!!!! No evil preservatives. MMMM I like this soap.

Here is a little video for you to get an idea what you can do with soap nuts:

A BEAUTIFUL ALKALINE BODY

Did you know that you can actually make your body more beautiful, simply by becoming more ‘alkaline’? Your body has a delicate pH balancing system in which it works to keep equilibrium & stop your body fluids from becoming more ‘acid’ or if needed, too alkaline. I’m going to focus on the alkalising bit in this article as we very rarely get ‘too alkaline’ in our modern day, fast paced, un-natural lives!

Think of it this way…

ALKALINE = Improved health, extra energy, enhanced beauty, toned & more supple body, glowing skin, sparkling eyes, lustrous hair, high libido, healthy nails, faster wound/injury healing, flexibility, strengthened immunity, feeling of lightness & balance within the body, mood enhancing/positive mind.

ACID = Lethargy, sickness prone, cellulite, bad breath, slow healing, sagging skin, bloodshot eyes, dark circles, falling hair, acne, dandruff, low libido, tight muscles, painful joints, aches/pains, headaches, brittle nails, feeling of heaviness, clumsiness, depression/negative mind.

Without going into extensive scientific details here on pH know (Antoniette HELP! lol)... I'm pretty sure the term 'pH' refers to the alkalinity or acidity of water solutions. Ie: your blood & body fluids, but can refer to the watery + mineral content of anything from soil to water to plants etc. There are wonderful books, charts & informative material on the web you can discover to educate yourself on saliva & urinary pH testing, which can be a highly beneficial monitoring system. This said I usually gauge my 'alkalinity' by the way I feel!

Foods that promote Alkalinity

Raw foods especially vegetables & green foods, spring water, almost all fruits, raw milks & cheeses, cultured foods such as sauerkraut (recipe to come!), kefir, kombucha & others. Lightly cooked vege’s & broths. Freshly pressed fruit & vegetable juices, wheatgrass juice, green drinks & smoothies. Fatty fish. Almonds. Sufficient rest. Yoga. Moderation. Light stress free exercise which is enjoyable. Sunlight, hydrotherapy & fresh country air. The sea. Love, laughter & peace of mind.

Of course, there are more but these are some of the big ones you want to make sure you’re doing or not doing!

Things that contribute to Acidity

Denatured foods such as white sugar, white breads/biscuits/pastries, red meats, soft drinks, smoking, late nights, excessive technology, fluoridated water, overwork, city air, excessiveness, coffee/tea, antibiotics, preservatives/flavourings/colourings, dried fruits, high protein foods (even natural foods, eat moderately), high intensity exercise or labour, lack of sunlight & stress.

Ways to create an Alkaline body

More ways to create an alkaline body would be to indulge in salt glows (scrub moistened skin all over warm body vigorously with sea salt until pink, rinse, towel dry), dancing in the rain, nature walks by the sea or rainforest, loving the dog/horse/budgie or people in your life, deep breathing, walking barefoot on dewy grass, aromatherapy treatments/massage.

Another thought

Don’t you find it interesting to think that the foods which are most beneficial to our health/vitality & wellbeing are the foods which grow in the most abundance & require little or no preparation to enjoy? I’m meaning fruits & vegetables as opposed to meat (needing much land for grazing & spoils easily), grain/nuts/seeds (more difficult to process than fruits & vegetables) etc. Herbs grow in astonishing abundance & almost without cultivation! Herbs are something which I feel we should be consuming more of daily. Also greens, fruits of all kinds, vegetables, grasses/sprouts, & milky grains (such as fresh corn on the cob)…These foods are readily accessible & perfect alkaline nutrition. Even an avocado is rich in valuable nutrients, good fats & is beautiful in alkalinity. These are foods that promote beauty, health & wellbeing in the way we look, think & feel. They fit into our hands perfectly, our mouths & even look like our body systems, organs & sometimes even diseases (now that’s freaky! natures food designed for humans). There's really so much to discover on this subject of alkalising... The effects upon our bodies is immense so do look into it further if you are passionate about health & especially, healing.

MG_7336

Probably the best thing about alkalising is, YES, we will look more gorgeous, there’s no doubt about that whatsoever. It works, making you more beautiful with every positive choice you make. But to me, what's even better than the other best part about alkalising, is in the way makes me feel. AMAZING, fresh, youthful & buzzing with ideas. Every. Single. Day.

SKIN CARE FOR MEN

As the days are getting colder (well, here in the Netherlands) I have to be extra careful with my skin. Not every man likes to put some effort in his "beauty" skin care for men regime (most men only wash their faces with water and that's it), but I'm a fanatic skin care user for many years now. I don't mind getting older (I'm 33 right now), but with my healthy lifestyle and the help of some natural products I can reduce the process a little bit.

As you know I don't drink any alcohol for almost a year anymore (read: Choose Your Juice), and I can see the effect on my skin! It looks healthier than ever before!

Every morning I use some natural face products for men. Here are the steps in pictures:

Step 1:

Check Out the Labels on Organic Products

If you would like to increase the likelihood that you are consuming genuine organic products, it is important to look at labels in the packaging before purchasing such products.  The United States federal legislation defines three levels of organic foods.  (1) Products made entirely with certified organic ingredients and methods may be labeled “100% organic.”  (2) Product with at least 95% organic ingredients may be labeled “organic” only.  Both of these categories may also display the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Organic Seal, which is a circle with "USDA" in green on a white background, and "Organic" written below in white on a green background.  (3) Products that contain a minimum of 70% organic ingredients may be labeled “made with organic ingredients,” but may not display the USDA Organic seal.  Products made with less than 70% organic ingredients cannot be advertised as "organic," but can list individual ingredients that are organic as such in the product's ingredient statement.  Products may also display the logo of the certification body that approved them.  As for livestock products, such as meat and eggs, there are other voluntary labels.  For example, “free-range” indicates that the flock was provided shelter in a building, room, or area with unlimited access to food, fresh water, and continuous access to the outdoors during their production cycle. The outdoor area may or may not be fenced and/or covered with netting-like material.  “Cage-free” indicates that the flock was able to freely roam a building, room, or enclosed area with unlimited access to food and fresh water during their production cycle.  “Natural” indicates that that the meat, poultry, and egg products are minimally processed and contain no artificial ingredients. However, the natural label does not include any standards regarding farm practices and only applies to processing of meat and egg products. There are no standards or regulations for the labeling of natural food products if they do not contain meat or eggs.  “Grass-fed” animals receive a majority of their nutrients from grass throughout their life, while organic animals’ pasture diet may be supplemented with grain.  Take note that the grass-fed label does not limit the use of antibiotics, hormones, or pesticides. Meat products may be labeled as grass-fed organic.  If you are not already doing so, next time you go shopping for organic products, look out for the USDA Organic Seal to increase the chance that you are actually buying and eating genuine organic products as growers and manufacturers of organic products bearing the USDA seal have to meet the strictest standards of any of the currently available organic labels.

RAW CHOCOLATE LOVE

Hi loves! Hope you're having a wonderful day :)

I'm so very busy right now working on my first cookbook ~ MODEL CHOCOLATE ~ which is getting closer by the moment! My chocolate brings you more energy, love & beauty with every supergorgeous bite! There are over 50 (more like 60) recipes in it ranging from breakfasts to desserts & even a couple of beauty treatments using raw cacao. In just over a month we'll be shooting the cover & I'll share sneak peaks here via Organic Your Life! Stay tuned...

For now though, I want to share with you a few raw chocolate tips you can do oh-so-easily which will enhance your:

Life  - this oldest living lady a chocoholic? woo!

Beauty - antioxidants second to none on the face of the earth

Love - watch this awesome inspiring  informative video by lord Cacao Wolfe

Health - extra raw cacao nutrition info

Happiness - anything that tastes this good & this good (bravo Val) & is every bit as good for you as it tastes makes you happy inside!! With those two recipes alone you can throw a little chocolate party! MMMMM.

Stock up on goodies:

Raw cacao powder, raw cacao nibs, raw cacao beans, creamed coconut, coconut oil, organic essential oils like peppermint, orange, lavender. Spices like cayenne & cinnamon, dried fruits such as blueberries, mango, incaberries. Organic fresh & frozen fruits & superfruits! Sweeteners such as raw honey, raw agave, maple syrup, coconut sugar. Organic nuts & seeds. Superpowders such as mesquite, lucuma, maqui berry, hemp protien, acai berry, maca. SOO GOOD.

Now you can do anything...!

Try:

Adding raw cacao, coconut oil, shavings of creamed coconut, cacao nibs, spices to nuts & seeds or organic fruits in your day. You can make simple fresh fruits exciting by adding yogurt & raw cacao nibs on top. You could add a sprinkling of raw cacao powder over a bowl of oatmeal before drizzling on honey & cinnamon. Rolling medjool dates in superpowders, mentioned above, & fill with raw cacao nibs or powder mixed with hazelnut butter. Snacking on cacao beans & goji berries is a favourite of many healthy people worldwide & for good reasons :)

Replace hot chocolate drinks with raw cacao hot chocolate. Don't scald it, place almond milk over raw cacao powder first, froth it with spices if you like & sweetener - then pour over the boiling water.

You can add cacao nibs or raw cacao powder into smoothies. I have a supersmoothie recipe in my book which is pretty much just young green coconut water with blueberries, cacao & any choice of superpowders/foods you like! It can taste scrumptious or earthy & medicinal depending on your combinations or needs on the day. A smoothie a day to keep the doctor away!

There's many great recipes available on the internet using raw cacao so have a play. Its worth the effort in all its blessedness... BUT if you are superbusy & want to buy chocolate instead PLEASE PLEASE choose only to buy fairtrade (refuse to support child slavery) for the rest of your life. I'd rather never taste chocolate again than buy chocolate that ruins a childs life. Remember too, buy chocolate that is what I call 'fairtrade by birth'. This means the company has always been fairtrade, rather than just slapping on a logo to keep up with the changing trends.

LOVE & CHOCOLATE

Products I'm obsessed right now

1. "doTERRA" Essential Oils.

Do Terra company was kind enough to send me couple of their samples. And I can honestly tell , that it is the best EO out there. It is high quality EO that little goes a long way! I especially love Peppermint and Citrus Bliss. Before an important even I put a few drops of Peppermint Oil on my neck and writs and it instantly puts me in alert mood. Citrus Bliss I use first thing in the morning, few drops behind the ears and on my hair – it wakes me up right way and puts me in a good mood. Can I just say LOVE?! Visit the website  where you can read all about www.doterra.com .

Also, dont forget to check http://www.oilessentials.org/ . Great website about benefits of Essential Oils and how to use them! Tons of info that will make you fall in love with EO!

2. "AMORE PACIFIC" makeup remover

I’m obsessed with this product! As a model (I have been modeling 10 years this year!) I have tried thousands of different makeup removers, some wear good, some were OK but ALL of them leave my skin red and irritated. Amore Pacific is the only makeup remover that does it job  (removes even heavy waterproof makeup) without stressing out my sensitive skin. It is really truly amazing stuff!

3. "REN "Rose Hip Oil

You literally need 1 drop of this face oil before you go to bed. After washing your face clean, apply a drop of this oil all over the face – it will repair and regenerate your skin cells. I don’t use it every night but once in a while – your skin will love that extra boost.

4. "VICHY" Thermal Water

100% pure water with 15 rare minerals. I always have it with me when I travel. I use it in the mornings instead of washing my face with tap water. Followed by toner and moisturizing cream.

5. "CAUDALIE " Eye and Lip Cream

Really nice Eye Cream from a company that uses all natural ingredients. I use it religiously every day, twice a day. It protects and energizes the skin around the eyes.

6. "OJON" Detoxifying Shampoo.

This shampoo I use once a week for a deep cleaning, it removes impurities and product build-up. I love how my hair feels right after – soft and really clean!

Besides, I love the story behind this company. It is sustainable and all natural, it wins my heart right way! Ojon is a tree that grows deep in the rainforest. Locals harvest ripe nuts from the trees, extract oil, which later made into precious elixir – the key ingredient in OJON hair care line.

7. "DESERT ESSENCE" Natural Tea Tree Oil & Neem Toothpaste

I love all Desert Essence products: mouth wash, deodorants, toothpaste etc. Particularly this toothpaste has a really nice refreshing taste plus it contains baking soda for whiter teeth. It is fluoride and SLS free!

LOVE, VAL

Raw Chocolate Brownies

RAW CHOCOLATE BROWNIES LOVE!!!... ♥♥♥

When you want to show someone some love, what better way to revolutionise yourself & the world you live in with these supereasy, superYUM organic brownies! RAW & so highly satisfying & nutritious you can even have them for breaky :D

TO MAKE:

1.5 cups organic raw walnuts

1.5 cups organic fresh medjool dates, pitted

3/4 cup raw cacao powder

1 teaspoon natural vanilla

Pinch himalayan pink salt or 3 squirts 'Cea' spray (as I did!)...

Pure raw cacao nibs for sprinkling!

Simply WHIZ your walnuts in a food-processor until fine (about 1 minute) add pitted dates, salt & vanilla, whizzz again until quite fine & starting to bind. Add cacao powder, one more whiz & you're done! You want it the mixture to be slightly dough-like but still crumbly. Press into a glass storage dish & refrigerate! That's it. If you'd like a chewier texture you can pop them into the freezer for a while before serving. Another nice touch would be to melt a little 'creamed coconut' & make white crosses on them especially for Easter, or even some desiccated coconut would do it.

These delish raw brownies have the texture of a rich buttery brownie you'd expect to be highly unhealthful only... IT's SUPERFOOD! Love to hear how you go making this. Take I-phone pics & feel welcome to share them to my Chocolate Book Page :) This recipe is just for you OYL readers, so you won't find it in the book. Just an extra one I had laying around!

Food Cravings. To Silence or to Listen?

Food. Do you love it one day, hate it the next? Or even worse, loathe yourself for the awful consequential emotions which overeating sweet, fatty or salty foods leaves behind?...

We've all experienced the negative feeling of food-abuse to a greater or lesser extent, & it certainly doesn't leave us feeling pretty! :( Usually, its sugary, processed, packaged foods which we fall the victim to eating at times of stress, discouragement or hunger & often the cravings won't leave until the damage is done! This is a huge subject, so today I'd like to simplify it into a few do's & dont's we can each remember. Things which have helped me personally to understand my body better & prevent the cravings which can lead to binging.

Let's firstly dwell on the POSITIVE! This is the secret of SUCCESS!

DO:

*NUTURE YOUR BODY WITH WHOLESOME FOODS! This means taking the time to eat nutritiously. You can either choose to listen to your body as it cries out for the essential 'building blocks' it desperately needs to make you healthy & happy, or silence it with all the wrong things. Foods like vegetables & fruits, are like gold. Beans, nuts, seeds, sustainably caught fresh fish (if you're not vegetarian/vegan) or free range organic eggs & dairy are good sources of protein & are highly satisfying. Including whole grains helps to balance blood sugar levels & also natural sweeteners - like raw honey, dried fruits etc eaten in moderation. Filling your body with nutrients is the FIRST & BIGGEST LEAP forward you can make in avoiding food cravings. Fresh green drinks/juices, spirulina/green barley, leafy green vegetables in salads or lightly steamed are paramount to a healthy body daily. Green foods STOP you craving processed empty calories in a flash. Smoothies with chia seeds & hemp protein added will abound your lifestream (your blood) with so many antioxidants, good fats & nutrients that you'll simply feel too good to crave unnatural foods & REMEMBER, eat something vitamin/mineral packed before hunger strikes.

*NUTURE YOUR MIND WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS! Say things over in your mind like: I love my body! I love natural foods! I love the colours, the flavours, the abundance of texture, the unending variety of natural foods! I love eating avocados, strawberries, olives, almonds! I love feeling good about myself. I love salads! Etc. Imagine yourself at your most healthy YOU. Imagine yourself feeling great about the meals you can choose to enjoy daily. Beautiful foods that nourish you & taste more than delicious! :D

*TREAT YOURSELF! I like to indulge. DAILY. We like to feel a little spoiled & thats okay. It all depends on WHAT I choose, as to how my choice affects me afterwards. I love the feeling of indulging in a whole punnet of organic strawberries from the farmers markets. I love the glowing feeling of health afterwards as well. Perhaps try indulging in a few squares of dark fairtrade chocolate (a cultivated taste - you will get to like it & it helps with cravings!). So good for the body & mind. Or make a raw ice-cream out of frozen mango/banana or berries. For a salty/fatty fix, try half an avocado (or a whole one) filled with your favourite olives. My seaweed chippies are my potato crisps preference! So tasty.

*HYDRATE! So simple! So vital. Drink a few big glasses of water between meals. Herbal teas, fresh juices & plenty of raw foods at meals. Helps to prevent you craving out of plain ol' dehydration. Keeping hydrated is a powerful positive tool against cravings. When you know you really need food, try going to the fridge/garden before the pantry.

*DISTRACTION! Sometimes we're not hungry or craving anything. Sometimes we're simply bored!... Sometimes we need a hug or a walk or a lesson in music/painting or dancing!... Sometimes we (me speaking to me) just love food too much! Distract yourself with something else thats nice - even a face mask, shower or visit/chat with friends. Yoga is a lovely thing to do when nothing will satisfy! Something else I love to do is read/re-evaluate my goals/pray or even lie in the sun or take a few deep breaths in the fresh air.

There's probably more... Hmmm... What else? Ok lets move onto a few no-no's.

DON'T:

*Do any of the opposite to the above. I'm sure you pretty much know what leaves you feeling grim. DON'T DO IT. DON'T HATE YOUR BODY, YOUR MIND, YOUR LIFE. DON'T FEED YOURSELF NON-FOODS (mostly stuff out of packets)... Don't stress. THIS IS ALL A JOURNEY.

It takes time, it takes love, but by making positive choices daily - you can BEAT FOOD CRAVINGS. Mostly, by taking advantage of the option to eat all the good foods you really need & love & letting go, of the ones you know you don't.

Love & chocolate (pictured above is my supergorgeous pie from my up & coming book - MODEL CHOCOLATE) xxx Abigail

Natural PMS-Muscle Fixer-Upper

CHOCOLATE. The most incredulous PMS 'Fixer-Upper' I know! Why do we (women) crave large doses of it every 30 days or so??? I wonder.

Raw cacao is the ultimate form of CHOCOLATE. Eat it for your health, beauty, anti-aging benefits, it's satisfying taste; OR simply to cure your temporary feeling of gloom, tension & perhaps even pain (at THAT time of the month!) Of course won't do Mr Muscle any harm either...Especially after a good run or some intense exercise.

You see CACAO is rich in the muscle mineral, MAGNESIUM. It is also excellent for boosting your mood, energy levels, & filling your body with some of the most beneficial nutrients available in one food!... Only, I'll leave you to investigate what those are. ;)

At times, I'll take a heaped teaspoon of raw cacao & of maca root together, mix with a little cold water, topping up with hot water, to make a brew of unsweetened medicinal 'hot chocolate.' It's one super-therapeutic drink for sportspeople or desperate women.

Here's a more delicious way to enjoy CACAO in those moments of dire need!!

SIMPLE HOT CACAO RECIPE:

1 dessertspoon raw cacao powder

1 dessertspoon (more if you like it very sweet) coconut sugar, agave, maple syrup or rapadura sugar

2/3 cup boiling water

1/3 cup cold milk - choose from: Freshly made raw almond milk (my recipe here), whole soy milk, organic dairy milk or other milk of your choice.

Choose from flavour options: Pinch of salt, small amounts of organic coffee or cereal coffee (for mocha), cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne pepper (for chilli chocolate), 100% pure essential oil of mint for choc-mint OR orange for jaffa (only 1/4 drop needed be careful!) or natural vanilla extract.

TO PREPARE:

Spoon raw cacao powder & coconut sugar or other sweetener into a mug, pour over your milk option & froth together with an 'aerolatte' frother or simply mix well to combine. Using the cold milk over the cacao preserves its precious nutrients & antioxidants! Add any other flavour options you desire, mix & sprinkle with extra cacao or spices. Now top up with boiling water & ENJOY the slightly bitter but OH SOO GOOD taste of real CHOCOLATE.

There is a very special INSTANT spicy hot cacao recipe in my book!! Can't WAIT to share it with you in time!...
