Two things I love with a passion? Chocolate and massages. You can imagine my delight when I recently discovered that you can actually combine the two! Even though both are considered luxury products, I personally believe they are extremely healthy for you and (dare I say it) even quite necessary for your wellbeing.

Why chocolate?

Uhm...seriously? It's just damn good! :D

But it's also actually really good FOR you, especially dark chocolate has a lot of health benefits: It contains alkaloids like theobromine, that increase serotonin and endorphin levels in the brain. (Serotonin has various functions, including control of appetite, mood and anger, endorphins work as natural pain relievers and produce a sense of well being). Scientists also claim that chocolate, eaten in moderation, can lower blood pressure.

Why massages?

(Again: seriously?)

As opposed to the calvinistic belief that massages are a decadent indulgence, they are actually a powerful pain management tool, a very effective stress reliever and therefore a good way to keep your body healthy. Massages relieve pain, reduce anxiety, depression and blood pressure. They also stimulate the release of endorphins and serotonin. Another interesting fact is that they increase peripheral blood lymphocytes, which stimulates the immune system by getting rid of the body's waste products. This is because massages improve both blood and lymph circulation, which helps your body gain strength and maximizes your energy level. Efficient circulation also helps in muscle recovery, growth, and promotes the natural healing process.

Why chocolate massages?

Well, duh... Ok, in the highly unlikely case you're not convinced yet, here's why: Needless to say, it smells delicious, and the warm chocolate on your back feels amazing. But there's much more to it: The combination of almond oil and cocoa really hydrates your skin, and therefore has an anti-aging effect, plus it contains various minerals that improve skin texture. Cocoa contains anti-oxidants, that have a detoxing effect on your body. Also, it contains tannic acid, known for its slimming effect. And this is only the physical part! It's very good for the mind too: The double increase of serotonin and endorphin makes you feel super relaxed, peaceful and gives you a feeling of happiness.

Pamper yourself: Get a massage

Every time I go to get a massage, I think " I should do this more often!". But of course  I always forget to arrange it regularly. Only when I get a back ache, I go. I should change that.

The best way to relax

I am talking about getting a massage! It feels amazing to relax in a nice place, with soft music on, and just having someone massage your body, and loosen the places that are tight. My modeling, stress, working on this website, it all gets stuck in my muscles. And it needs to get loose.

In certain occasions, my mind still goes crazy thinking of ideas when I am on a massage table. But luckily most of the time I get so at ease, that I actually fall asleep.

I feel like a new person when I get up after. I really think you are more creative, productive or just do everything better, if your body does feel loose and fit. So I recommend everyone to get a massage once a while. I mean, you only have one body and you should take care of it. See this as a check up you would do on your car every so often. If you don't do it with your car, it might break down at some point. Better to prevent that from happening.

What kind of massage I choose

I usually choose to get a deep tissue massage, so with a bit more pressure, and sometimes I get a hot stone massage. That is really nice because you get hot stones placed on certain spots on your body, and the heat goes into your muscles. I also go to my local nail salon and get a back massage while sitting on a massage chair once or twice a week when I am in NYC. That is probably my favorite, as my blood does not go to my head so much as with regular massage when you lay flat on a massage bed. And it is not expensive. There are places at airports too that give these massages in chairs, as well as at some events you can find it too. Try it out, especially before a flight or when stressed out it feels so good!

Give a massage to others

Not only you can benefit from a massage, giving it to someone will definitely release tension, and your pets (or horse) love a massage too!  A massage strengthens bonds & relationships when given to loved ones.

Get a professional massage

Go to a salon, spa or if you just don't have the money right now, persuade your partner to do it because you so need it! And if you are single, ask your good friend or family friend if they want to do it?
