Oven cleaning with lemon

For everyone who needs to "Organice" their home, and especially clean their home regularly, it is great if you know smart tips to make it easier and more fun! Here is another one for your oven.

OYL-Home-Banner

As you know I love cooking,as cooking yourself is just the healthiest thing you can do! But that means I am using my oven a lot so that it becomes dirty. But I don't worry, as I have the perfect thing to help me clean my oven faster and easier!

This is my oven cleaning tip: oven cleaning with lemon! Take a bowl that is heat resistant and fill it with water. Then take a lemon or a lime, cut it in half and squeeze the juice so it mixes with the water. Put the lemon or lime also in the bowl. Put this in the oven and turn it on until the water starts to boil. Then, turn off the oven and let it cool off with the door closed. This little trick will not only make it much easier to clean your oven, as the bowl will attract the dirt and grease from the oven, but it also smells delicious.

p.s. a lemon is also great to clean the top of the stove with. it is anti-grease!

a quick vegetarian meal!

Hello,

I like to eat delicious foods, but don't want to spend too much time in the kitchen. Sounds like a dilemma? I tell you: you can do both!

One dish we made the other day was vegetarian and Indonesian inspired. It took me only 20 minutes!

A delicious Indonesian inspired feast!

We  took vegetarian chicken by the Vegaslager, which is delicious and can compete with the flavor and bite of real chicken. But if you want to eat chicken, choose organic, that's very important. (you don't want to eat meat that has hormones, medication so the chicken can grow rapidly from being born to a full grown chicken in sometimes less than 50 days! Not healthy, so choose wisely, always  choose organic meat) I grilled it on an electric grill in 10 minutes.

Vegetarian chicken satay

We cooked organic brown rice that was quick to cook, within 10 minutes. You can take regular rice that takes usually a bit longer, around 25 minutes.

We baked organic eggs sunny side up.

We added a bit of warmed up, pre-made organic satay sauce (a sauce made of mostly peanuts) by the brand Yakso.

The salad was simple and so delicious! Shred a big carrot. Add a whole avocado cut into pieces. Add herbs/plants like parsley and garden cress cut up. Add pine nuts. For dressing: a bit of lemon juice mixed with blood orange juice. Yummy!

Eating fast and delicious foods is all about having simple, fresh ingredients. It is also fun to play with colors. Delicious foods are a feast for the tastebuds, but should also be that  for the eyes!

Enjoy!

breakfast

How to really start your morning

We should think of our body as a miracle machine that does everything to keep us healthy and happy.

While you sleeping at night, your body is going thru detox process - it is getting rid of old toxins and waste that you receive thru polluted air, unclean water, unhealthy food ... You name it.

To me , the most important meal of the day is breakfast. How you will feel the whole day is simply depends on what you have first thing in the morning.

breakfast

My advise to everyone is to start your day with glass of warm water and fresh squeezed lemon juice. Lemons are very alkalizing on your body, so you will have stronger immune system. Besides, lemons are very cleansing for your intestines.

Wait 30 min and then you can have your breakfast, It is very important to have fruit as a first food entering your body. Try to keep is simple - chose one fruit that you enjoy most and have it as much as you want till the lunch time.

My favorite breakfast is melon smoothie!

I take one cantaloupe melon - split it in half - spoon out the seeds. Then I take my blender and put ripe flesh into it. I blend everything well and thats it! Sometimes I add almond milk and it tastes even better!

5 Foods That I Eat Every Day

1. Cucumber

I juice it every morning with other vegetables. It is so hydrating for the skin. Cucumber will make your skin look young and fresh.

2.Kale

I use kale in my salads as a green base; I add other veggies as well. Or I use it in my green smoothies (banana, apple 1 cup of water and kale). The other way to use kale is to juice it with other veggies and fruits. Kale contains lots of fiber, vitamins K and C, calcium.

3.Himalayan Pink Salt

Your body needs 1 teaspoon a day of a high quality salt. I love Pink salt, it is full of minerals and it makes everything tastes better! I add a pinch of Pink Salt at the very end, so I don’t destroy vitamins and minerals in a cooking process.

4. Olive Oil

Our bodies need a good fat to keep us healthy and slim. Choose Organic Cold Press Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Toss it in your salad instead of mayonnaise or any other commercial dressings. I use 2 – 4 Tablespoons a day.

5.Lemon.

Every morning I squeeze a fresh lemon in a glass of water for an extra detox. Contains Vitamin C for immune system, but the best quality of a lemon is that it keeps our body alkaline.

This is not the only food that I eat! Those 5 foods I include in my diet every single day TOGETHER with other whole foods: fruits, veggies, nuts, fish, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, dark chocolate, green tea, organic coffee and last but not least – pure clean water!

Bok Choy Salad Recipe with Rosemary-Lemon dressing

Hello, my dear OYL readers! Today I'm sharing another delicious  salad recipe. This time I use Bok Choy as a base of the salad.

But what makes this salad very special is a dressing! I use lots of fresh rosemary for this recipe, making it very fragrant and super yumm!

Bok Choy, also known as Chinese Cabbage, contains glucosinolates, a component that helps fight cancer.

Bok Choy is a great source of vitamins A, C and K. One cup of shredded raw Bok Choy  contains half of your daily requirement  for each of these nutrients. Pretty cool, hah?!

Rosemary is exceptionally  rich in B-complex, as well as Vitamin A and iron. And Rosemary is very hood for your brain!  "Since rosemary contains rosmarinic acid as well as other essential antioxidants, it helps to prevent the breakdown of an important neurotransmitter responsible for helping with brain function".
So, lets get started!

Ingredients:

  • 1 head  Bok Choy
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 tomato

Dressing:

  • few  fresh rosemary*** leafs
  • juice 1/2 lemon
  • 2TS Butternut squash oil* (substitute to Olive Oil/Hemp Oil or Flax Seed oil)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • pinch of Sea Salt

Directions:

Chop Bok Choy, bell pepper and tomato. Place it in a large bowl. In a blender** or food processor place all 'dressing' ingredients and blend well. Pour salad dressing over the veggies. Sprinkle 1 TS of ground flax seeds (it's optional , but I always try to add flax seeds whenever I can). Mix well. Ready!

* For those who lives in New York, you can find Butternut Squash Oil at "The Filling Station" in Chelase Market. It is one of my favorite places to shop for innovative oils.

**I use my super cool TRIBEST BPA-free portable blender. It's much smaller then regular blender, so it is perfect for traveling. Aslo I like to grind my flax seeds and cacao nibs in it. And, ofcours, I use it to preper dressings for salads like today.

*** If you are pregnant or breast feeding, do not use rosemary.

Ginger-Lemon Tea Recipe

I make this tea every other day because I love it so much and I never get bored with ginger flavor. Its so spicy and warming and reach and …. healing! When you feel your stomach upset or when you over-eat (think Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas celebration!), or when you need immunity boost, make this tea for yourself or your love one, seat in a cozy chair with a blanket over and enjoy herbal aroma that is oh so good for you! Sipping ginger tea will calm you down, fire up your digestion and warm up your soul.

I always keep raw chocolate bar in my fridge (yes, i do keep my chocolate in a fridge! it stays crisp and fresh) . Chocolate and this tea is a delicious treat at any time of  a day!

Cheers to health!
