Carol 3

Introducing: top model Carol Fontaneti

I worked with Carol on a job for Fay, an Italian clothing brand a few years ago. We reconnected years later when I found out she is also very much into health and food. She will likely start to become a contributor on OYL and share her modeling experiences and her favorite beauty and food tips. Here is a little glimpse into the life of Carol:

Carol 1
Carol Fontaneti

Hello guys!

My name is Carol Fontaneti I'm brasilian and I've been modeling for about 10 years. I started when I was 17, what makes me 26 years old now. I am living in NYC, but I've lived all arround the world in places like Paris, Milan, Hamburg, Tokyo, Barcelona...
From age seventeen till the late eighteens, I've tried to handle both worlds : being a student and a professional model. I finished high school and started studing Advertising focused on Marketing, but I couldn't carry it for longer than a year... at that time I was living in the countryside an hour and a half away from Sao Paulo, and it was so time consuming  going after classes for castings or shoots in the city. After finishing one year of four - I quit studing to focus only on the modeling careear. Me and my family went back to the city I was born, and I started to make really good campaings for Brasilian brands until the day an agency from NY saw me and signed me in. I was just a little lost girl from a big city, 18 years old that couldn't speack a single world of English... I know it doesn't sound that bad comparing to other girls that came at youger ages from the middle of nowhere places... But I felt pretty lost.

Lucky me, I always had my families support, which made me strong enough to keep on track and slowly I was getting in touch with my truth self and learning about me and what I wanted for my life.

Carol 2

So here I am today to talk about what is my passion in life for!
First of all, as I grew up in a BIG , busy city called Sao Paulo as I said before and my childhood had a lack of contact with nature and freedom. Growing up surrounded by buildings and car horns, I did not have the chance to have a pet or anything , also my Mom used to say she would be probably the one taking care of , cause me and my brother were too lazy to do so ourselves...
So as soon as I could, I adopted my very first pet! All the accumulated love and care from all these years, is now on this little fellow  :) My dear NINIS. ( he is passing in front of the computer back and forth right at this moment to catch my attention )

When it comes to passion I must say the biggest one I have is for FOOD, no doubt. I started to care about food, and acknowledging this is the most important tool for a healthy life when I started modeling, but not because of it. I want to stay healthy for life, not only because I'm a model. I always have been living this healthy life not smoking or drinking, I only like to have a glass of wine once in a while and champagne for special occasions, so for me it is not that hard.
Of course I have my flaws ... but I push myself to don't get lazy about exercising and making my own food at home. Of that last thing, I can give all the credits to my boyfriend, cause he loves homemade cuisine and we share the dream to have a restaurant in the south of Brasil - where we want to retire from the modeling career.

Meanwhile we stablished a routine of excercises and it really helps when you have someone to go to the gym with together. So after we go for a run , we  eat a good lunch, searching for the right way to prepare plates we most love only adding or subtracting ingredients depending on our needs.

To finished talking about passions, I get inspired a lot from the arts, I have a very artistic background since my mom used to paint and draw all the time when I was little, I got this expressing myself artistically sense of need , and first of all it came out as writing journals and little poems and it grew to writing blogs or just littles phrases to myself that I never get to show anyone.
I've accumulated journals since the age of 15 till my 23 and it always felt confortable do it when I was by myself traveling or living on my own away from my loved ones.
Now very often I get this feeling that I must do something to express my feelings instead of my job , and I found this in writing.

That's pretty much it and I wil finish my text with a" cliche" but very useful phrase:

BEAUTY COMES FROM THE INSIDE OUT!!

XOXO Carol Fontaneti

The Green Smoothie

I want to share another great recipe.  It's super easy to make and very beneficial for your health; I have to tell.  The ingredients you'll need for this recipe Im sure you have in your fridge right now, but you'd never think to combine them all together.  So, let' see:

  • 1 or 2 bananas
  • 1 Gala apple
  • 2 cups of spinach
  • 2 cups of fresh water

Put everything in blender and run for 30 sec, or until everything blends very well.  That's it!  The Green Smoothie is ready.

It's so yummy, you wouldn't believe it!  Don't worry about the spinach; you will not taste it at all.  All you taste are bananas and apple!  The spinach adds so many vitamins and minerals to this drink!

You can have it for breakfast or dinner or as a snack in between the meals.

If you like this recipe, later you can experiment with different greens: kale, arugula, mint, romaine, etc.  As with fruits, you can use blueberries, pears, melons, or mangos.

This smoothie contains so many nutrients your body craves that by drinking it, you will loose your cravings for unhealthy food.

RAW CHOCOLATE LOVE

Hi loves! Hope you're having a wonderful day :)

I'm so very busy right now working on my first cookbook ~ MODEL CHOCOLATE ~ which is getting closer by the moment! My chocolate brings you more energy, love & beauty with every supergorgeous bite! There are over 50 (more like 60) recipes in it ranging from breakfasts to desserts & even a couple of beauty treatments using raw cacao. In just over a month we'll be shooting the cover & I'll share sneak peaks here via Organic Your Life! Stay tuned...

For now though, I want to share with you a few raw chocolate tips you can do oh-so-easily which will enhance your:

Life  - this oldest living lady a chocoholic? woo!

Beauty - antioxidants second to none on the face of the earth

Love - watch this awesome inspiring  informative video by lord Cacao Wolfe

Health - extra raw cacao nutrition info

Happiness - anything that tastes this good & this good (bravo Val) & is every bit as good for you as it tastes makes you happy inside!! With those two recipes alone you can throw a little chocolate party! MMMMM.

Stock up on goodies:

Raw cacao powder, raw cacao nibs, raw cacao beans, creamed coconut, coconut oil, organic essential oils like peppermint, orange, lavender. Spices like cayenne & cinnamon, dried fruits such as blueberries, mango, incaberries. Organic fresh & frozen fruits & superfruits! Sweeteners such as raw honey, raw agave, maple syrup, coconut sugar. Organic nuts & seeds. Superpowders such as mesquite, lucuma, maqui berry, hemp protien, acai berry, maca. SOO GOOD.

Now you can do anything...!

Try:

Adding raw cacao, coconut oil, shavings of creamed coconut, cacao nibs, spices to nuts & seeds or organic fruits in your day. You can make simple fresh fruits exciting by adding yogurt & raw cacao nibs on top. You could add a sprinkling of raw cacao powder over a bowl of oatmeal before drizzling on honey & cinnamon. Rolling medjool dates in superpowders, mentioned above, & fill with raw cacao nibs or powder mixed with hazelnut butter. Snacking on cacao beans & goji berries is a favourite of many healthy people worldwide & for good reasons :)

Replace hot chocolate drinks with raw cacao hot chocolate. Don't scald it, place almond milk over raw cacao powder first, froth it with spices if you like & sweetener - then pour over the boiling water.

You can add cacao nibs or raw cacao powder into smoothies. I have a supersmoothie recipe in my book which is pretty much just young green coconut water with blueberries, cacao & any choice of superpowders/foods you like! It can taste scrumptious or earthy & medicinal depending on your combinations or needs on the day. A smoothie a day to keep the doctor away!

There's many great recipes available on the internet using raw cacao so have a play. Its worth the effort in all its blessedness... BUT if you are superbusy & want to buy chocolate instead PLEASE PLEASE choose only to buy fairtrade (refuse to support child slavery) for the rest of your life. I'd rather never taste chocolate again than buy chocolate that ruins a childs life. Remember too, buy chocolate that is what I call 'fairtrade by birth'. This means the company has always been fairtrade, rather than just slapping on a logo to keep up with the changing trends.

LOVE & CHOCOLATE

HAUTE KRAUT

My sauerkraut has to be the totally best ever kraut in existence ANYWHERE. Why? Because its only 10 minutes + 8 - 10 days to make a few jars of organic pre-digested krauty goodness you can pop open anytime enjoying its immediate benefits on digestion, beauty & nutrition. PLUSSS its haute PINK ;) & I loovee hot pink ANYTHING. Pictured are two of my lunches this week: salad with HAUTE KRAUT & PESTO, & a quinoa green salad, which is now all hauted up.

All you need is:

One big head of organic red cabbage

1 tablespoon sea salt + 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

A food processor (to shred it quickly) or really good sharp knife & chopping board.

To make finely shred the cabbage as if making coleslaw. Put into a large bowl & squish with your hands along with the sea salt. The vinegar is optional. Keep squishing until the cabbage becomes juicy & bruised. Using a clean spoon & a some squeaky clean jars (any will do) compact down portions of squished cabbage until about 1 cm from the top of each. This will allow room for the kraut to expand slightly as it ferments. Put all your jars onto a serving tray & place in a cool dark place for 8 - 10 days. The tray is to catch any liquid that may bubble out!

Enjoy it with anything & everything. I love it on salads, toasted sourdough bread with goats cheese, eggplant pickle & kale or with steamed vege's to add enzymes & good bacteria. Anything that promotes good bacteria in the gut makes you GORGEOUS. You knew that though right?!

Love & chocolate xxx Abigail

Lonneke for SI

My 1 day food diary

May 22nd 2012: I decided I want to get in my best shape for my vacation. I will be going to Ibiza beginning of June! I want to get in best shape possible for my bikini those days of course. So I decided to keep a food diary. Food and work out is a big part of looking great! So I am going to go for as close to 100% eating perfect, and working out every day. Plus I will get some great treatments, to improve my appearance.

This is what I look like right now:

Lonneke by JBC

Not bad, I did this job in Corsica a few weeks ago, but I am noticing I am not as toned as usual. And a bit pale :s. I have been working too hard on organiceyourlife.com I have not worked out as much! Bad girl...  I want to get back to my Sports Illustrated shape as below!(with the tan preferably ;) ):

Lonneke for SI
Lonneke for Sports Illustrated 2010-2011

That means I have to be tough on myself! No chocolate all the time, eating healthily and also moving my *ss more! You have to work for result... So, I am telling you exactly what I am doing coming weeks. What do I do to get in Top Shape again? I will show you my improvements, and you will also get to see what I eat, and how I change in shape and how my skin will improve! Trust me it will happen, just from one day, you already start having hydrated skin if you drink a lot of water...  We can all look great then coming sunny days!

DAY 1: To start off, I am making it very difficult for myself, as today right away I am taking a flight to across the Atlantic Ocean! But I took the time to wake up (if I get up fast I am tired all day, so I wake up early and take some extra time to just relax in bed before I get up) . I saw all the support tweets and messages and got excited! I started the day with a shot of Chlorophyll on an empty stomach. In the USA it is easy to get, it is the same as in a wheat grass shot, try to find it in your local health store. Chlorophyll is critical in photosynthesis in plants (absorption of energy from light). Then I looked what I still had in my fridge... And made a smoothie! Smoothie: Banana, coconut water, fresh lemon juice, flax seeds.

Banana- coconut -lemonjuice-flaxseeds-smoothie

Workout: 25 min treadmill. I hate doing things for prolonged periods of time. but running while watching something on the iPad is good, and I put my favorite dance music on when I jump on trampoline. I DON'T like work out but I know that every time I start I get in greater shape and feel great after, like I can conquer the world. And feeling sweaty feels good too (release of toxins from your body) It makes your skin soft and nice too! At noon I went to get a nice facial at Tracie Martyn. Getting facials makes your skin glow! Deep cleansing and microdermabrasion. Find a good place close to where you live.

During the day if I felt hungry I snacked on some cherries, grapes and nuts. I took a flight from NYC to Amsterdam with KLM. Before that I took a 30 min back massage at Express Spa. You know the one where you sit in a chair and they put their elbows in your back. I love it! So I fell asleep easily on the flight and got a few hours of sleep on the way over. Day 2: I landed in Amsterdam at noon. I went to the hotel. When you are running around you sometimes forget to eat, therefore it is always good to have some sort of snacks with you, that you can eat while on the go.  I went for lunch: a nicoise salad with grilled tuna. Then I walked around the "Vondelpark" with my nephew Navy and his father (my brother-in-law Michael Lamey) for a few hours. We were so tired when we got home as it was so sunny and warm too! I also had to carry Navy, on my back or in my arms, so that was a great work out. For dinner I had a couscous salad with grilled shrimp. And a decaf latte (sorry I could not help it it helps my digestion after a flight) I was so busy all day doing fun things that I forgot food. i just made sure that when I ate, it was delicious! Tomorrow I am going vegetarian I think. I hope they have some good options at the shoot... Day 3: Sorry I did not update this day earlier, but I was shooting today for a campaign with Dutch top models Cato van Ee & Sophie Vlaming.

in the morning I ate breakfast in the hotel: 1 banana, 1 slice of bread, a few strawberries, fruit yoghurt, green tea, orange juice, 1 hard boiled egg.

ALKALISE YOUR BODY BEAUTIFUL

Did you know that you can actually make your body more beautiful, simply by becoming more ‘alkaline’? Your body has a delicate pH balancing system in which it works to keep equilibrium & stop your body fluids from becoming more ‘acid’ or if needed, too alkaline. I’m going to focus on the alkalising bit in this article as we very rarely get ‘too alkaline’ in our modern day, fast paced, un-natural lives!

Think of it this way…

ALKALINE = Improved health, extra energy, enhanced beauty, toned & more supple body, glowing skin, sparkling eyes, lustrous hair, high libido, healthy nails, faster wound/injury healing, flexibility, strengthened immunity, feeling of lightness & balance within the body, mood enhancing/positive mind.

ACID = Lethargy, sickness prone, cellulite, bad breath, slow healing, sagging skin, bloodshot eyes, dark circles, falling hair, acne, dandruff, low libido, tight muscles, painful joints, aches/pains, headaches, brittle nails, feeling of heaviness, clumsiness, depression/negative mind.

Without going into extensive scientific details here on pH know (Antoniette HELP! lol)... I'm pretty sure the term 'pH' refers to the alkalinity or acidity of water solutions. Ie: your blood & body fluids, but can refer to the watery + mineral content of anything from soil to water to plants etc. There are wonderful books, charts & informative material on the web you can discover to educate yourself on saliva & urinary pH testing, which can be a highly beneficial monitoring system. This said I usually gauge my 'alkalinity' by the way I feel!

THINGS WHICH PROMOTE ALKALINITY = Raw foods especially vegetables & green foods, spring water, almost all fruits, raw milks & cheeses, cultured foods such as sauerkraut (recipe to come!), kefir, kombucha & others. Lightly cooked vege’s & broths. Freshly pressed fruit & vegetable juices, wheatgrass juice, green drinks & smoothies. Fatty fish. Almonds. Sufficient rest. Yoga. Moderation. Light stress free exercise which is enjoyable. Sunlight, hydrotherapy & fresh country air. The sea. Love, laughter & peace of mind.

Of course, there are more but these are some of the big ones you want to make sure you’re doing or not doing!

THINGS WITH CONTRIBUTE TO ACIDITY = Denatured foods such as white sugar, white breads/biscuits/pastries, red meats, soft drinks, smoking, late nights, excessive technology, fluoridated water, overwork, city air, excessiveness, coffee/tea, antibiotics, preservatives/flavourings/colourings, dried fruits, high protein foods (even natural foods, eat moderately), high intensity exercise or labour, lack of sunlight & stress.

More ways to create an alkaline body would be to indulge in salt glows (scrub moistened skin all over warm body vigorously with sea salt until pink, rinse, towel dry), dancing in the rain, nature walks by the sea or rainforest, loving the dog/horse/budgie or people in your life, deep breathing, walking barefoot on dewy grass, aromatherapy treatments/massage.

Another thought. Don’t you find it interesting to think that the foods which are most beneficial to our health/vitality & wellbeing are the foods which grow in the most abundance & require little or no preparation to enjoy? I’m meaning fruits & vegetables as opposed to meat (needing much land for grazing & spoils easily), grain/nuts/seeds (more difficult to process than fruits & vegetables) etc. Herbs grow in astonishing abundance & almost without cultivation! Herbs are something which I feel we should be consuming more of daily. Also greens, fruits of all kinds, vegetables, grasses/sprouts, & milky grains (such as fresh corn on the cob)…These foods are readily accessible & perfect alkaline nutrition. Even an avocado is rich in valuable nutrients, good fats & is beautiful in alkalinity. These are foods that promote beauty, health & wellbeing in the way we look, think & feel. They fit into our hands perfectly, our mouths & even look like our body systems, organs & sometimes even diseases (now that’s freaky! natures food designed for humans). There's really so much to discover on this subject of alkalising... The effects upon our bodies is immense so do look into it further if you are passionate about health & especially, healing.

Probably the best thing about alkalising is, YES, we will look more gorgeous, there’s no doubt about that whatsoever. It works, making you more beautiful with every positive choice you make. But to me, what's even better than the other best part about alkalising, is in the way makes me feel. AMAZING, fresh, youthful & buzzing with ideas. Every. Single. Day.

LOVE & CHOCOLATE (PS. I'm very very busy with my book, so if I don't write for a while, extra LOVEEE! XXX) Abigail

Eating Your Water

With the temperatures heating up in New York City, it is vital to get the right amount of water in daily, as we consist of 60% H20 relative to our weight! So not only should we drink up, but we should also eat up!

I know it can be hard to get the recommended '8 glasses of water a day' for some people, especially if you are out and about, and simply lead an extremely busy lifestyle. I personally try to shoot for a good 10+ glasses, and for most approximately 2 litres a day is minimum! It might seem like a lot, but I do perspire quite a bit in the summer, and I sometimes think I am part camel, as I really do crave water! People laugh at me, but I have to admit it is my favorite beverage :)

But drinking water on its own is not the only source of hydration, as we are surrounded by nutrient dense, and hydrating fruits and vegetables which ultimately contribute to our daily intake of water (not fluids, as you can't count coffee, alcohol or caffeinated tea )

So here is a list of my favorite, water rich foods which you can incorporate into your diet, to contribute to your recommended 8 glasses a day minimum. They are perfect for the summer, and really will leave you nourished, healthy and most importantly hydrated!

- Lettuce (96% water)- all varities. My favorite is crunchy Romaine

-Cucumber (94%)- I have mine in salads, as a snack or I juice it into a green juice! So hydrating.

-Pears- I incorporate them into a juice, or cut them up in my fruit salads

-mushrooms- I can have a mushroom any which way, but prefer them steamed or lightly sauteed

-radishes- perfect in your summer salads, especially delicious with a citrus fruit (grapefruit, arugula, fennel, radish salad)

-watermelon (96%)- Of course:) My ideal summer fruit, and one that I simply cannot get enough of

-pumpkins (93%)- these gorgeous squashes have an extremely high water content, so roast them, make 'pumpkin fries' or simply steam them for a side dish

-broccoli and cauliflower (90%)- My two favorite vegetables. I do have to have them slightly steamed though, but can eat them in the bucket loads.

-spinach (92%)- I blend it into smoothies, juice it, or simply throw it into my salads. The more greens the better!

Not only are these foods alive and nutritious, but they taste amazing, consist of antioxidants which contribute to anti-aging, keep you full and contribute to your glow, all the while keeping you hydrating!

Remember to drink and eat your water!

Eye saver!

Lately when I have been flying on long-haul flights, my eyes become incredibly dry. It becomes so bad that it gives me a headache, nausea and when I arrive, I have to go straight to bed as I don't feel so good.

They say that when you watch tv or look at your computer for a longer period of time, are in areas with extreme dry/dirty air, your eyes can get irritated. When you watch tv anyway, you blink your eyes less than you usually will (staring), so an eye drop could work!

I found these eye drops from Weleda in de Natuurwinkel , an organic grocery shop in the Netherlands. They are very mild to my eyes and I love them!

Ogentroost

They are called in dutch "Oogentroost", and in English "Euphrasia 3X". They are homeopathic and even come in seperate ampules so you can take it with you on the plane.

Food Cravings. To Silence or to Listen?

Food. Do you love it one day, hate it the next? Or even worse, loathe yourself for the awful consequential emotions which overeating sweet, fatty or salty foods leaves behind?...

We've all experienced the negative feeling of food-abuse to a greater or lesser extent, & it certainly doesn't leave us feeling pretty! :( Usually, its sugary, processed, packaged foods which we fall the victim to eating at times of stress, discouragement or hunger & often the cravings won't leave until the damage is done! This is a huge subject, so today I'd like to simplify it into a few do's & dont's we can each remember. Things which have helped me personally to understand my body better & prevent the cravings which can lead to binging.

Let's firstly dwell on the POSITIVE! This is the secret of SUCCESS!

DO:

*NUTURE YOUR BODY WITH WHOLESOME FOODS! This means taking the time to eat nutritiously. You can either choose to listen to your body as it cries out for the essential 'building blocks' it desperately needs to make you healthy & happy, or silence it with all the wrong things. Foods like vegetables & fruits, are like gold. Beans, nuts, seeds, sustainably caught fresh fish (if you're not vegetarian/vegan) or free range organic eggs & dairy are good sources of protein & are highly satisfying. Including whole grains helps to balance blood sugar levels & also natural sweeteners - like raw honey, dried fruits etc eaten in moderation. Filling your body with nutrients is the FIRST & BIGGEST LEAP forward you can make in avoiding food cravings. Fresh green drinks/juices, spirulina/green barley, leafy green vegetables in salads or lightly steamed are paramount to a healthy body daily. Green foods STOP you craving processed empty calories in a flash. Smoothies with chia seeds & hemp protein added will abound your lifestream (your blood) with so many antioxidants, good fats & nutrients that you'll simply feel too good to crave unnatural foods & REMEMBER, eat something vitamin/mineral packed before hunger strikes.

*NUTURE YOUR MIND WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS! Say things over in your mind like: I love my body! I love natural foods! I love the colours, the flavours, the abundance of texture, the unending variety of natural foods! I love eating avocados, strawberries, olives, almonds! I love feeling good about myself. I love salads! Etc. Imagine yourself at your most healthy YOU. Imagine yourself feeling great about the meals you can choose to enjoy daily. Beautiful foods that nourish you & taste more than delicious! :D

*TREAT YOURSELF! I like to indulge. DAILY. We like to feel a little spoiled & thats okay. It all depends on WHAT I choose, as to how my choice affects me afterwards. I love the feeling of indulging in a whole punnet of organic strawberries from the farmers markets. I love the glowing feeling of health afterwards as well. Perhaps try indulging in a few squares of dark fairtrade chocolate (a cultivated taste - you will get to like it & it helps with cravings!). So good for the body & mind. Or make a raw ice-cream out of frozen mango/banana or berries. For a salty/fatty fix, try half an avocado (or a whole one) filled with your favourite olives. My seaweed chippies are my potato crisps preference! So tasty.

*HYDRATE! So simple! So vital. Drink a few big glasses of water between meals. Herbal teas, fresh juices & plenty of raw foods at meals. Helps to prevent you craving out of plain ol' dehydration. Keeping hydrated is a powerful positive tool against cravings. When you know you really need food, try going to the fridge/garden before the pantry.

*DISTRACTION! Sometimes we're not hungry or craving anything. Sometimes we're simply bored!... Sometimes we need a hug or a walk or a lesson in music/painting or dancing!... Sometimes we (me speaking to me) just love food too much! Distract yourself with something else thats nice - even a face mask, shower or visit/chat with friends. Yoga is a lovely thing to do when nothing will satisfy! Something else I love to do is read/re-evaluate my goals/pray or even lie in the sun or take a few deep breaths in the fresh air.

There's probably more... Hmmm... What else? Ok lets move onto a few no-no's.

DON'T:

*Do any of the opposite to the above. I'm sure you pretty much know what leaves you feeling grim. DON'T DO IT. DON'T HATE YOUR BODY, YOUR MIND, YOUR LIFE. DON'T FEED YOURSELF NON-FOODS (mostly stuff out of packets)... Don't stress. THIS IS ALL A JOURNEY.

It takes time, it takes love, but by making positive choices daily - you can BEAT FOOD CRAVINGS. Mostly, by taking advantage of the option to eat all the good foods you really need & love & letting go, of the ones you know you don't.

Padma & Lonneke at the 4th annual Blossom Ball

Women's Health - Endometriosis

Padma Lakshmi & Lonneke Engel

March 15th 2012, I went to the 4th Annual Blossom Ball to benefit the Endometriosis Foundation of America. This event was hosted by Padma Lakshmi, who has openly spoken about suffering from this disease. It was a great night with a lot of attention to women's health. Tyra Banks spoke, as well as Padma herself, and the doctors who initiated this foundation. I was part of the Honorary Committee. It made me think of writing more blogs about womens health, as I find that very important. Let's focus on this disease, which about approximately 176 (!) million women and girls worldwide suffer from, 8.5 million in the USA alone.

As you can see, many other celebrities attended, like Susan Sarandon, Debbie Harry and and models Alek Wek and Genevieve Morton. I was even mistaken for Dita von Teese by someone haha!

So first of all: what is endometriosis exactly?

Endometriosis is a disease where the tissue that lines the uterus and the womb, has spread outside of the uterus and grows in different places in the body, mostly in the:

  • Ovaries
  • Fallopian tubes
  • Tissues that hold the uterus in place
  • Outer surface of the uterus
  • Lining of the pelvic cavity
It can also grow in other parts of the body.

Result is pain and discomfort in pelvic area, lower  back pain mostly around the time these women have their period, or during sex , bowel movement or urinating.

To read more about what endometriosis is, what symptoms you can have, and what you can do about it, go to the Women's Health page from the USA government here.

To donate or learn more about the Endometriosis Foundation of America, go here. And read their fact sheet on Endometriosis and read stories from women who suffer from endometriosis here.

If you have any of these symptoms, you should go to your doctor and get checked out if you suffer from endometriosis. As I have some symptoms of pain as well, I have been checked too. At first sight it seems I don't have endometriosis. I am happy to hear that but the symptoms are not gone yet and I have to get more checks done. I urge every woman to get checked regularly anyway, but especially when you suffer from pain or discomfort, go to the doctor as that is not normal. Since so many women have issues, it is not a taboo. We can talk about it, and it is good that you share with your friends there experiences. I will update you on my condition too!

Love, Lonneke

The Daily Mail UK did a little feature on this event, read it here.

the IMG crew at 4th Annual Blossom Ball

p.s. my table with IMG models and agents was so much fun! I also have to say that Padma did a great job creating the nice ambiance in the NY Public Library. She even took care of the fragrances in the room. Eye for detail I would say. It was nice that a great cause like this gets attention by a beautiful event like the Blossom Ball. See you next year!
