LOVE AND BE LOVED

Hello guys. Inspired by my life and love I have to share some words with you!

True Love

Everyone wants to love and be loved. I hear it a lot that isn't an easy journey to find TRUE love. Actually it can be really simple, in my opinion. Listen to your heart , to your true self that knows everything... it doesn't look that simple to you?? I will explain:

1. Love yourself first

It is impossible to give and receive love without loving yourself more than anything! Loving YOU first means respecting your opinions, your feelings and your wishes... and that makes it all easier. It comes from the inside out. Your true voice will talk, your heart will feel and you'll respond to your feelings.

IMG_1557

2. Finding love

I won't say love is around the corner, because I know we don't find it every time we cross the street. But when you find it, you will know. There is no other way around, there is no doubt! It is just there... it's not a PERFECT feeling... nothing in this World is perfect. But it is just right, just the way it has to be, it's just enough, it's FULFILLING.

I know, I know you must had heard that a million times: " one day you will find it"...

So don't torture yourself on your way to this beautiful path. Just go with the flow. Do never forget, YOU always come first.

3. Little tips to follow when you have found love:

  • FOOD tastes much better if made with love! So cook with your heart and for the ones you cherish. Try these 5 recipes for chocolate lovers (1 is my recipe!)
  • Give yourself some little "me time" once a while. Take little breaks only to do your hobbies, or something that makes you happy.
  • Sunbathe. You won't believe how wonderful you'll feel after some sunshine on your skin (don't forget the sun screen)
  • Be around people that make you feel good and share good moments with them!
  • Have a pet if you can... loving the animals is one pure great feeling!
  • Spend time with children! They make you happy, they make you LOVE them.

love my cat Ninis with Fabio

All those little actions will surround you with love and great feelings!  We know we attract more and more of whatever we're feeling or experiencing. So treat your whole World with love, an be loved along the way!

The pictures in this article represent LOVE to me, including my love Fabio Nunes!

Happy Thanksgiving with your Loved Ones

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and spend time with your loved ones. Here are 5 things for a happy Thanksgiving with your Loved Ones.

Organice Your Life - Circle of Five1. Organice Your Home for Thanksgiving

Clean up and organize your space. Make sure you have some  nice lighting like a fire places, candles or holiday lights.

Listen to beautiful music, like Maruja Retana's Thanksgiving playlist

2. Organice Your Agenda for Thanksgiving

Make sure you send your invitees a reminder of your and let them know if they need to bring something or not. Start planning and preparing your Thanksgiving celebration a day or 2 ahead of time. Make sure you have enough time!

Play an old fashioned board game with your guests. Not only good for your brain but also a lot of fun!

Or Watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade!

3. Organice Your Self for Thanksgiving

Again, make sure you have enough time to dress up and look great when you host your Thanksgiving get-together ..Take a nice shower or bath, relax and sleep well the night before. Organice Your Relationships for Thanksgiving

Try to invite people who are likely to have a good time together. Think less is more, meaning focus on a few good friends and family. If you don't have (a good relationship with) family, or if you live far apart, you invite your best friends. Remember, family doesn't have to be blood-related: you create your own family of loved ones! The more people you invite, the party will become more work and become less personal. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for your closest friends and family, and just have a beautiful time together!

Organice Your Good Heart for Thanksgiving

You probably prepare too much food for Thanksgiving. Make something with the leftovers the next day, or make a leftover meal for yourself, or for those who did not come to your party. ((actually, our friend MasterChef Brasil contestant Fabio Nunes once made an amazing Turkey for dinner, and the next day came over to make the most unbelievable turkey, vegetable frittata I ever had!) Just know that a lot of people are pretty lonely during the holidays. If you know of someone that is going to be alone, invite them to your celebration! You will make it a night they will never forget. Sometimes doing a good deed is as simple as that!

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!

Love, Lonneke

New York City outdoor workout with friends!

When it's Summer in NYC, for me there is n better combination than meeting with friends and doing a New York City outdoor workout! One time, our dear friends Ricardo Baldin and Jeanette Linderberg, joined my love Fabio Nunes and I for a nice week of training and eating good food.  I get to see them only once in a while, so it was another reason to really enjoy our time together.

Ways to work out outdoors in New York City

There are a LOT of ways to do a New York City outdoor workout:  biking, playing ball, skating, running. And there are a lot of places to do it so too!

After a great smoothie in the morning, we all went for a cardio training that takes only 15 minutes of your time! The goal is to keep your heart rate a bit at a certain level that helps you sweat and burn fat. After all is a great way to raise your energy levels for the rest of the day.

We also had a little fun doing Yoga poses ( Asanas ) and helping each other to improve our technique. We went to the Elevated Acre in the Financial District to do this workout.

Eating healthy after a workout

I am proud to say that our post New York City outdoor workout meal was amazing! : Chicken legs, sweet potatoes, spinach egg whites omelet with avocado topping and arugula salad. Every single ingredient was organic and chicken was free range grade 2. All made with love and care by Fabio's talented chef hands. He is a Model Chef after all, who has cooked many delicious dinners for foodlovers around New York City :)

Riding a bike in New York City

The other day, we rode city bikes and took the East River cycling route with destination: Central Park. The ride was just so enjoyable, the temperature during the day was perfect and it really got into my senses the whole experience exercising, and enjoying the view, good weather and company. We even bumped into few Brasilian friends that were doing exactly same thing as we were: two girls on their skates while the third one was running alongside them. The bike ride was about 7 miles , Uptown to Central Park, and back home with a few stops to enjoy our favorites places in the city. Like the Italian meca Eataly on 5th av and 23rd st - were we went to recharge our fuel with great food.

When at the park it was easy to have a good time!

Outdoor work outs with friends are fun

Gather a few friends, get inspired by the good weather and push each other to reach your goals! Share your knowledge and experiences - all that, and relieving stress at the same time! Above all Summertime is here to raise our spirits in a positive vibe !! I strongly advice to stay active,  moving your body every chance you get! That's the way I'm gonna spend my next days, what about you guys ?? ;))

Fabio Nunes of Masterchef Brasil

We asked Chef Fabio Nunes - famous for competing on Masterchef Brasil, and currently on Masterchef Brasil A Revanche -  to share with us how he "organizes his life in an organic and nice way" by using the Organice Your Life Circle of 5. Enjoy!

1. Organice your Home

I like to live in an organized environment. Before, when I was living in my hometown and at my parents' home, I didn’t have any idea about the importance of an organized home. Later on, I have lived everywhere in the World sharing apartments with roommates and I learned from this experience that to be called ‘Home’ it needs to feel "homie", it must be organized, be functional…

The Kitchen

The kitchen is where I like to focus my organization. I know how important is to have a good 'Mise en place’ to the whole process of cooking. So I try to take that idea as a model, as a professional chef and apply it to everything else I do in life. I also try to be consistent, there are certain things I have to do every single day, at least for a few minutes a day. But consistency is very important when you are trying to achieve your goals.

The household

I'm glad that I have a great partner in life to help me organize my clothes and my closets, because I’m the worst at foldings my shirts ( and she’s the best at it by the way ).

2. Organice your Agenda

I like to wake up early everyday it’s possible and I love to have a good night sleep of 10 hours every once in a while… I don’t like to make people wait for me, or be at places with some time to spare ahead of the time of the meeting. I get pretty anxious about leaving my house in big cities where you have to keep track of traffic jams and other inconveniences. So I tried my best to keep my schedule on time by planning my day ahead, something I usually do every morning. Now I can luckily count on car services and fresh organic food delivered to my door, which makes living in a big city much more enjoyable. I have always tried to balance my time between running my errands and taking care of stuff, with fun moments of relaxation where I get to enjoy a little bit life and have a brake. Usually I go to the gym, or I just sit and play some videogames. I also love to search online for new ideas of recipes, so I spend a lot of time in front of devices, and maybe that's not too

3. Organice Yourself

Nutrition

Cooking to nourish my body and to keep me energetic through the day, is what I do every weekday. On Weekends we are free and some weekdays as well.. I live a happy life and I'm happy eating whatever I want, even though I’m completely aware of the importance of a healthy diet.

Workout

I love exercising at open spaces and recently I have joined a group to practice running. Im in love with the activity, I have also meet wonderful people through it and I even ran a half marathon!

Himalayan Salt Lamp

Because I spend a lot of time in front of devices, I always have my Himalayan salt lamp light up during the evening.

Aromatherapy

Also at night, I get the benefit from aromatherapy with therapeutical organic oils I mix with water on my diffuser. That’s how I end up the night, just before sleep, I practice a mindfulness exercise that really gets me ready to unplug my mind and calm my thoughts.

4. Organice your Relationships

Family

I live far away from my family. So I take advantage of social media to stay in touch with. Not seeing my niece growing up, is not pleasant and I'd love to be in my hometown with more frequency. I try to do my best even with a busy agenda and living abroad for all these years. I have been present in the most important moments I guess… for instance, one night my best friend had his daughter when I was there. She’s my Goddaughter. Recently my sister got pregnant and had her first baby girl - I was there too. I also went to her graduation and my nephew’s . So I’m pretty happy with it. It’s a real struggle living far away from each other, but we have been able to manage it.

Love

I have been together with Carolina Fontaneti for more than 10 years already, and they are the best years of my life. We’ve learned and evolved so much from each other's experiences that I just want to have her in my life to keep that feeling forever. She’s my best friend and she’s the best person I met in this life. She truly inspires me, one of the reasons I started caring more about the culinary World, and building on this passion by her side was joyful.

Love under the water!
Me and my cat Ninis when he was a little kitten!

Cooking with love

I just really love to cook for my friends. It's one of the things I love most in life, that’s why I always say that 'I cook when I love’.  So in the best case scenario, at least once a week I get my friends or family together to prepare something delicious, I usually get inspired with an urge for cooking with a particular ingredient, or sometimes I bump into an amazing piece of ‘something delicious’ that I simply have to take back home. I like to serve my loved ones with love and care, of course reflected in the food I prepare them.

5. Organice your Good Heart

Giving back

I’ve got amazing opportunities of working on giving back to my community more and more. For many years I’ve been part of The Heart of Fashion Organization that does beautiful work with some institutions all over Brazil. My favorite one - and the one I like to visit often - are the 'Taiguara Houses'. They are committed to help homeless kids who are living on the vicious streets and provide them a home and opportunities to study and get a job or get connected to their once lost families again.

Eliminating food waste and conscious cooking

'Invisible Food’ is an amazing project that I'm very happy that I've joined as it brings together two great passions of mine: food and conscious cooking. Thousand tons of food are thrown away every single day all around the World, but we found a way to begin the process of saving this food locally. With the 'invisible food truck', the whole team that is part of this very passionate movement and I were able to save a lot of ingredients with a full potential of being saved and transform into beautiful and tasteful food. The idea is to bring awareness about how much food we could feed the ones in need just by changing a few wasteful horrible habits. It starts at the producer of the foods, and goes all the way to the final consumer. We all need some enlightenment about the urgent food issues to be solved. I want to live in a beautiful sustainable world, and I believe I'm doing my part to it.

Making of Model Chocolate

Carolina, Fabio, Dirk and I spent some time in my Organice Your Life® kitchen in NYC making delicious chocolate treats! We first went through the Model Chocolate book by top model & OYL contributor Abigail O'Neill, and picked our 2 favorite recipes.

Lonneke & Carolina making chocolateLonneke & Carolina

Model chocolate book

Australian model Abigail just released her first chocolate & super foods book full of yummy desserts & treats called "Model Chocolate". And send us a copy too to try some desserts! So we spent the whole night preparing the recipes and we had a lot of fun!

From the many, many recipes, I chose the pie Love Me Bittersweet Jaffa Pie and Carolina chose the cookies.

model chocolate book

Love Me Bitttersweet Jaffa Pie

The pie is a mix of pure, organic ingredients like shredded coconut, pure chocolate nibs & powder, orange oil, orange juice, macadamia nuts and dates.  It is probably the most expensive pie I ever made, as most of the ingredients are not cheap, but it is one of the best pies I ever tasted! The amount of each ingredient was really perfect, you could really taste the orange oil & juice in the "aftertaste". And all the ingredients are uncooked, organic and actually healthy for you! Of course you don't eat the whole pie at once, so after the pie was made, and we all had a piece with a nice cup of tea, we split the remaining pie and Carolina & Fabio took their half home. We later found out we all ate a little piece each night after dinner as a treat until it was finished! So the whole week we all enjoyed it. So in the end it was something we could enjoy for so long it wasn't an expensive pie at all.

The cookies were a mix of ingredients like chocolate powder, spelt meal, maca, macadamia oil, coconut oil. These pictures are going to be posted in an article by Carolina so stay tuned!

Bare Burger NYC review

In NYC we can find a lot of restaurants. A lot of fast-food restaurants, as well as high-end cuisine. Any kind of cuisine you can find here as well. And organic versions of these fast food & high end restaurants are here too. I really like Bare Burger NYC.

Bare Burger NYC started with I believe just one place downtown NYC close to the NYU area, and quickly expanded, maybe also because of their franchise system. Loved by students and locals who appreciate good, simple comfort food with a low price tag, this place becomes such a success fast that new Bare Burger NYC restaurants are opening all over town. There are over 15 restaurants also outside of NYC.

We go quite a lot as it is easy and very close to where we live. And the choices of salads and burgers give you plenty of different choices to choose from each time! Their menu includes big healthy salads, healthier versions of burgers with organic ingredients, organic fries, organic milkshakes & beer: Check their MENU.

I have been going here from the beginning. Their restaurant has a nice vibe and the terrace as well. Bare Burger NYC now has made 50% of the menu all vegan and even offer gluten-free options!

George & DavidBareburger La Guardia place Terrace ( usually the terrace is full of tables) with my best friends George & David

Lonneke eating Portabella mushroom burger

Love a burger? Bare Burger has a great system for you to choose your ideal burger! Pick your bun, patty, toppings, sauces and sides. Ever heard of an elk or bison burger? or a black bean burger? They got them here! And all organic of course.

Veggie quinoa burger

Love fries? I love the sweet potato fries! And they fry them in peanut oil (they say it is healthier) And they come with 4 Bare Burger original dips.. still deciding which one is my favorite....

Love a milkshake? They got a milkshake made for you from scratch! Fresh ice cream, organic fruits, a bit of organic cane sugar and shake it baby!

Oh, and if you really want to eat healthy: they have a few nice salads and you can add just a patty without the bun to it. Problem solved.

Mexican SaladThe Mexican Salad at Bare Burger

Bare Burger LogoEven the interior is from reclaimed materials, and the ambiance is relaxed, cosy and a great place to bring your friends, or go to with people who are difficult eaters. (hey, everyone likes fries and burgers right?)
