Raw chia seed pudding

I love chia seeds! If you have never try chia seeds, you are missing out on something nutritiously important!

Chia seeds are full of fiber, antioxidants, rich in essential omega-3 fatty acids, phosphorus, manganese, potassium and calcium. I'll give you an easy recipe, so you can start to incorporate chia seeds into your diet.

Chia seeds facts and precautions:

  • A research done by the St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Canada has indicated that chia seeds are potentially capable of lowering diastolic blood pressure to alarming levels. So, low blood pressure patients should steer clear of it.
  • Chia should be consumed in short phases followed by break periods as some cases have shown people getting addicted to it.
  • Pregnant and lactating mothers should keep away from chia seeds as not enough researches have been conducted to check for its effects on them.

I prefer to eat chia seed pudding for breakfast!

Brazil Nut Milk Recipe

[youtube id="6mYoMlG8UX8" mode="normal" align="center"]

If you want to start a healthy diet but you don't know where to start, nut milk is a great way. You can use for your smoothie, oatmeal, coffee, tea, and off course just as it is. So lets get started!

Brazil Nut Milk
A lovely recipe for home made Nut Milk. This recipe contains Brazil Nuts, but you can also use almonds or any other nut.

Recipe type: Drinks

Prep time:
Total time:

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of Brazil Nuts
  • 2 Dates
  • 4 cups of Water
  • 1 tsp of Organic Vanilla Powder
  • 1 tsp of Cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of Himalayan Sea Salt

Instructions
Milk Base
  1. Put about two cups of Brazil Nuts into your blender.
  2. As a sweetener your can add two dates. You can also use organic honey or sugar.
  3. Add about 4 cups of water depending on the thickness you prefer.
  4. And for some extra flavor I used one teaspoon of Vanilla Powder and one teaspoon of cinnamon. Please make sure you don't use liquid vanilla that contains alcohol.
  5. To bring up the flavor just add a pinch of Salt.
Straining
  1. Use a reusable nut milk bag to strain the mixture.

Notes
Most nut milk bags are reusable, they can be used for nut milks and straining juices. A bag is much easier and faster than using a strainer. The fine mesh material minimizes sediment and allows for sprouting of even the smallest of seeds and grains.

Lonneke on De Dino Show

Philippe, Lonneke, Jandino & Adje

Hi everyone!

Yesterday was my first time being on a tv show ever, showing how to make juices and smoothies and mentioning Organice Your Life®! It was the talk  show by comedian Jandino Asporaat, "De Dino Show"  which is very popular amongst young people in the Netherlands.

I could not stop laughing while I was there! Jandino and the other two guests: Philippe Geubels (a Belgian comedian) and Adje ( A Dutch rapper) were so funny! I hope to be back sometime in the future and I hope to do more of these shows too!

I showed 2 recipes:

*A Juice, juiced with the Versapers juicer with: kale, apple, carrot and ginger. To find more juices  on our website that you can make with your chosen juicer, go HERE.

*And my famous Banana, spinach and almond milk shake. If you want to know how to make a smoothie with these and other ingredients, find the article I wrote for this site about that HERE.

And everyone tried the smoothie and thought it tasted good!

The last one they loved the most!

Blender by Teresa

Smoothie making for dummies.

Blender by Teresa
A good blender is essential. Picture and blender courtesy of OYL Contributor Teresa Lourenco.

Hi!

You want to incorporate healthy foods like smoothies into your life but don't know where to start? I give you some easy simple tips so you can start right away!

STEP 1: Buy a GOOD BLENDER. The quality of the blender is really important because a smoothie really needs to be blended well to get best result for taste and texture. The more watts usually means better crushing of tough foods like kale or ice. I like the ones with a square glass container as it helps the blending process. (foods are thrown into the corner and bounce back into the middle.) There are many good ones. Vitamix, Magimix and Breville are good brands. Check out reviews online before you buy yours. the sound of the machine while working is important too. I don't like it when it is making too much noise.

Blender Magimix
Blender I have at my home in the Netherlands

STEP 2: Work with FRESH CLEAN FOODS. The most important thing is that you always work with foods that are good to eat. Not going bad.  And cleaned thoroughly. As it changes the flavor right away and maybe ruins the whole smoothie if you put in only one ingredient that is not totally clean or fresh. leafy Greens are great as they have A LOT of essential minerals and vitamins. in a smoothie with fruits you won't taste it but you take it in. Try it! Options are: Spinach, Kale, Parsley Collard Greens, Romaine.. anything you like. They are good juiced too :) Other vegetables like carrots and beets can work too. The more vegetables you put in, the more fruits you should add to balance the flavor out. Find more smoothie recipes here on organiceyourlife.com  in the recipes section, right here.

Fruit Juice by Joey
OYL contributor Joey Holthaus also likes to make smoothies with fresh ingredients. Doesn't it look great?

STEP 3: SAFETY. Place the blender in a safe place when you work with it and make sure the lid is tight.

 FORMULA OF A SMOOTHIE:

1. 1/3 liquid (That can be anything you like: water, almond milk, rice milk, milk, hemp milk, soy milk etc)

2. 2/3 fruits and vegetables you want to blend. (the more fruits, the sweeter it will taste.)

3. spoonful of extra ingredients like vitamin powders.

blending takes +/- 15 seconds. So making this is like less than 5 minutes with cleaning the ingredients and the blender included!

So my favorite smoothie is:

-Almond milk

-Kale

-Banana

-Vitamineral or Detox powder or any healthy powder.

Just blend and enjoy! Or I get it at Juice Generation at Equinox Gym, that's easy too ;)

How to make Almond Milk

Today I want to share a great recipe for almond milk. I always have fresh almond milk in my fridge. It stays fresh up to 5 days. Great alternative for cows, soy or rice milk. It's easy to make, super yummy and you know what's in it cause you make it YOURSELF! ( think of other nasty ingredients that you buy together with your supermarket almond milk).

How to make Almond Milk

Author:

Ingredients
  • 1 cup of organic raw almonds (soaked in water over night)
  • 3 cups of filtered water
  • 1-2 dates (pits removed)
  • pinch of sea salt (pink Himalayan or Celtic sea salt)
  • pinch of vanilla (whole dry vanilla powder or vanilla extract without alcohol)
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • -good blender (I use Blendec)
  • -nut milk bag

Instructions
  1. Put everything into blender and run for 30-40 seconds. Pour the mixture into a strainer or nut milk bag to separate pulp and milk. That's it!
  2. Use it together with granola for breakfast or make nutritious banana and strawberry smoothie. Put it in your coffee or tea. Add cacao and you've got chocolate almond milk! Variations are endless!

Enjoy!

Vanilla Chai Latte

If you are tying to quite coffee, this recipe is for you! I created this vanilla-cinnamon chai latte when I was craving something warm, creamy and cinnamon-ny;)

usually I reach out for a cappuccino ( with almond milk ofcours) but I really want to stay way from a coffee.

Anyways, this latte is so yummy! It is diary - free and sugar- free .

Its a perfect morning beverage , it will replace your usual latte from a coffee places ( full of sugar, additives and commercial milk)

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup of almond milk ( or rice, soy, hemp- milks. It's your choice)
  • 1 cup of freshly brewed chai tea
  • 1 Table spoon raw honey ( or more, if you like it very sweet)
  • 1 tea spoon cinnamon
  • 1 tea spoon organic ground vanilla

Put everything in a blender and mix. Enjoy!

If you prefer iced-chai latte, then I suggest to add an ice into a blender together with other ingredients.

Natural PMS-Muscle Fixer-Upper

CHOCOLATE. The most incredulous PMS 'Fixer-Upper' I know! Why do we (women) crave large doses of it every 30 days or so??? I wonder.

Raw cacao is the ultimate form of CHOCOLATE. Eat it for your health, beauty, anti-aging benefits, it's satisfying taste; OR simply to cure your temporary feeling of gloom, tension & perhaps even pain (at THAT time of the month!) Of course won't do Mr Muscle any harm either...Especially after a good run or some intense exercise.

You see CACAO is rich in the muscle mineral, MAGNESIUM. It is also excellent for boosting your mood, energy levels, & filling your body with some of the most beneficial nutrients available in one food!... Only, I'll leave you to investigate what those are. ;)

At times, I'll take a heaped teaspoon of raw cacao & of maca root together, mix with a little cold water, topping up with hot water, to make a brew of unsweetened medicinal 'hot chocolate.' It's one super-therapeutic drink for sportspeople or desperate women.

Here's a more delicious way to enjoy CACAO in those moments of dire need!!

SIMPLE HOT CACAO RECIPE:

1 dessertspoon raw cacao powder

1 dessertspoon (more if you like it very sweet) coconut sugar, agave, maple syrup or rapadura sugar

2/3 cup boiling water

1/3 cup cold milk - choose from: Freshly made raw almond milk (my recipe here), whole soy milk, organic dairy milk or other milk of your choice.

Choose from flavour options: Pinch of salt, small amounts of organic coffee or cereal coffee (for mocha), cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne pepper (for chilli chocolate), 100% pure essential oil of mint for choc-mint OR orange for jaffa (only 1/4 drop needed be careful!) or natural vanilla extract.

TO PREPARE:

Spoon raw cacao powder & coconut sugar or other sweetener into a mug, pour over your milk option & froth together with an 'aerolatte' frother or simply mix well to combine. Using the cold milk over the cacao preserves its precious nutrients & antioxidants! Add any other flavour options you desire, mix & sprinkle with extra cacao or spices. Now top up with boiling water & ENJOY the slightly bitter but OH SOO GOOD taste of real CHOCOLATE.

There is a very special INSTANT spicy hot cacao recipe in my book!! Can't WAIT to share it with you in time!...

Love & chocolate xxx Abigail
