Organic Marqt

If you are in Amsterdam, go to Marqt, an organic supermarket at Overtoom 21, right in the center of Amsterdam.

The concept seems copied from the famous Wholefoods concept, but Marqt is smaller, cosier and makes you feel like you go back to the old days of going to an indoor market. The food is maybe a bit expensive some say, but it is definitely worth it!

Everything is mostly organic, from local farmers, and they have a lot of recycled or eco friendly products. I love the cheeses, as they have a few vegetarian options! and the bread…. mmmm especially the nut and fruit bread.

Definitely worth going,

Open every day.

There is also one in The Hague… I am happy as I found Vita Coco coconut water there!

monday thru saturday 8am-9pm

sunday 12pm-6pm

    Hi Lonneke,
I’ll be going to Eindhoven for a few days, and I’m in search of raw honey and organic almond milk. Do you know any stores where they would sell this?

sorry for late responds but there is an “Ekoplaza” on the GeldropseWeg and the Kruisstraat. Both have organic almond milk and probably also raw honey! Good luck! (I love those stores :) )

    Hi Lonneke,

Have you already discovered the one in ‘the Bank’ on Rembrandtsquare ?? I love to come over there, especially after I went to Whole Foods / Green Life during my 5 month stay in America. It feels so much better do some groceries at Marqt instead of an AH on every corner of the street in Amsterdam. Although it is sometimes too expensive as a student, but we have the Albert Cuyp & Ten Kate as an alternative :)

No I have not but I want to try! Marqt is great. And if it is too expensive: choose then key products from Marqt or another health food store and get the rest at the regular place. Like organic milk/meat and some veggies that are better to eat organic (google the “Dirty Dozen” and see which veggies you should really eat organic. others are o.k. to eat non-organic if the price makes you make decisions. Also some products are only for sale at Marqt or Ekoplaza like coconut water (Vita coco at Marqt) And the regular market is still good too! :) Xlonneke
