Model skincare: My simple Beauty regime

The more I learn about nutrition and beauty, The more I come to understand that the secret to looking radiant is TO DO MORE INTERNALLY THEN EXTERNALLY! Meaning, eat plenty of fresh  fruits and vegetables, make your daily meals  at least 80% or more raw – less cooking, boiling, heating, microwaving, frying your food, –drink more water, take high quality oils as a supplement ( choose one of the following: raw coconut oil, organic olive oil, hemp seed oil, flaxseed oil, avocado).

Externally your beauty regime shouldn’t be complicated at all! I got rid of bunch of expensive creams. I used to spend crazy amount of money on commercial beauty products. Today,  I replaced them all with just a few products that I found work best for me:

Raw coconut oil – Coconut oil is the best body moisturizer, occasionally I use it on my face (1 drop of coco oil is all you need for an entire face).

Raw honey –  I use organic raw honey as my daily healing  mask.

Cleanser – I just discovered black Japanese soap “Deitanseki Clay Soap”. I found it while visiting  Morikami Japanese Garden in Miami. It deeply hydrates skin. Does not clog pores , gently cleanse face, especially the pores, with micro-porous active ingredients. Enriched with Kaolin Clay and selected Carbon Powder The Bentonite helps your skin retain its natural moisture.

Face moisturizer – I have a couple of different face creams.  I switch between them all the time:  “EMINENCE” Rose Moisturizer  and “Dr. Perricone” Hypoallergenic Nourishing Moisturizer .

Thermal water – I wash my face with Thermal Water, also use it as a toner before applying moisturizer.

Face scrub – I love  “REN” face scrub.

Clay mask – Again, “REN” clay mask is amazing. Or you can purchase any clay mask at your healthy food store.

Pineapple  (you can substitute it to strawberry or papaya) – I always have a fresh pineapple at home.  I use it as a peeling mask, fruit acid “eat away” dead skin cells leaving your skin looking fresh.  How to use pineapple as a peeling mask: Take a piece of pineapple, rub it all over the face. Leave it for 5 minutes. Rinse. Spray Thermal water following by moisturizer or coconut oil.

My tip – If you are going to spend money on beauty product, invest it in a really good face moisturizer, like I did :)

Hi, Mahe! Every health food store should haver a coconut oil. Look for 100% organic RAW coconut oil in a glass jar (plastic jars leak toxins to coconut oil. yaiks!)
Or you can order online. I like Where you from? xx

Great! I’ll try to find it in a health food store here in my city by tomorrow! I am really excited about this way of life, and I’m reading you a lot! I didn’t know that plastic jars could be so bad, nice tip. Thank you very much :) I’m from Brazil, State of Minas Gerais.

Valentina, I love the coconut idea, such a great moisturizer in these harsh winter months! Another great food I would suggest trying for a glowing complection are sweet potatoes! Try it and tell me what you think:)

LOL this beauty routine is anything but simple and economical.I appreciate your advice and tips,Val,but 99% of us literally cannot afford the products you mention. If we grew everything ourselves, then yes it would be simple, but this is not.Going to numerous stores, buying online, very expensive brands…all time consumes time and money which most of us do not have.

    • Valentina January 10, 2012 at 7:27 pm #

hi! I have to disagree with you, Tajna! the jar of a coconut oil cost around $10-12 . You can use it as a body and face moisturizer, pre-shampoo hair conditioner, make-up remover and cooking oil . Right there you already save at least $100 or more! Honey – every one have a jar of honey at home, so go ahead and use it as a cleanser and face mask …etc.. Im not selling those products that I mentioned, i like them personally, everyone is different. the point is that you should use what you have in your fridge and kitchen (fruits, honey, coconut oil, olive oil) and save money on something “special” and fancy that you really like.

Well Val the products you mention,REN,Dr.Perricone’s products are almost $100! I use coconut oil for all the reasons you mentioned.I saw that you recommended Manuka honey in a previous skincare post, which retails for $29.99 for a rather small jar at my organic shop.Even my local Kiawe honey is expensive. You should see how expensive my local bee pollen is! It would make a big STING in my wallet,ha ha !I am a raw foodist and live by many raw food and natural principles,I am curious about the products you use but cannot afford them.It would be great if OYL had a reader sample treat of products to send out to all the readers who cannot afford these products but who are interested and curious!
I hope you don’t take my post the wrong way.I am really interested in what you write about, your principles and reasons for your consumption and diet, just I cannot afford to have special and fancy treats in my life.

Ooh, thank you for sharing this Val :) I am definitely going to try coconut oil if I can find some. I also have a question about the mask – do you just put honey on your face and let it sit? What exactly does it do? Must be sticky…

BTW, a friend also told me about charcoal soap and it works wonders! My skin is so soft and apparently this kind of soap is all natural and pure. The brand I tried is “Sort of Coal” which looks like the one you use.

    Greetings from Berlin!
